Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Diaper Issues!

We all have babies so I'm guessing this won't gross anyone out, but just a warning before proceeding.  DS has had ongoing diaper blowout issues. He is FF and typically only poops once a day in the morning usually right after waking up or before he leaves for daycare. Because he only goes once a day, these poops are epic and more often then not blow out of his diaper unless we catch him right after he's done the deed. Sometimes it's just a change of clothes, but other times like this morning he got it all over his magic sleep suit and all over himself and ended up getting a bath at 5am.

We currently use size 2 pampers swaddlers and he's 15lbs.We used Target brand for awhile but noticed DS would start getting a weird gross odor from moisture retention or something. Anyone have recommendations for their favorite brand of diaper to avoid blowouts???

Have you tried a diaper cover?  I know cloth is not for everyone but maybe just trying a cover over his diaper will help conceal the massive poop.

ETA: just over the morning diaper that he poops in.

  • I was having the same issues with dd. She was 15lbs using size 2 swaddlers. I did not think there was anyway that she would fit in size 3. After 2 weeks of blow outs and trying everything(tighter, looser, higher in he back, and ruining countless outfits), I bought a box of size 3 swaddlers and have not had a blow out since. Buy a small pack of 3's and see how it goes, you will eventually use them anyways if they don't fit now.
  • Knock on wood my daughter is 5mths old and we haven't had a blow out yet! But she was only like 14lbs when we moved her up to size 3 pampers. I think you should move up and see how it goes!
  • Ok, we're moving on up! I do really like the swaddlers and it's true we will eventually need size 3 anyway :)

  • Def go.up a size. I am having the same issue but my baby is ebf.

    New Mommy!!!

  • I do cloth diapers and have found that they contain the morning poop-slosion pretty well.  I know it's not for everyone but it's worked for us.  I also, as a precaution, try not to dress him until after he poops.  I usually take his pajamas off when he wakes up and let him hang out in the cloth diaper/diaper cover until poop time and then he gets dressed that way it doesn't get everywhere.  However, he makes a very specific grunt before he poops so I'm able to take care of it ASAP.
  • This is one big reason we cloth diaper, he needs the elastic on the back. If the size 3s don't work I would try a diaper cover over his disposable until he poops. Good luck! Blow outs are obnoxious!

  • Huggies contained the poop better for us than pampers.

Same here! I haven't had one Blow out since we switched from pampers to Huggies!
  • I've tried both Pampers swaddlers and Huggies little snugglers, and I can honestly say that Huggies works better for preventing leaks and blowouts for my little guy. So I would suggest trying them out :)
