S/O lockdown...RE: o2

This is sort of an off shoot from the lockdown questions. We're pretty sure DD will come home on o2. The NICU said it can help with keeping her healthy this winter because of the extra bump and assistance with breathing.

Disclaimer: well most likely have a pretty serious lockdown with her bc DH is a total germ freak...

Question is--those that came home on o2, what sort if lockdown did you maintain and did your LO stay relatively healthy during cold/flu season?

Re: S/O lockdown...RE: o2

  • DD2 came home on o2 last year, and we maintained the strictest of lock-down scenarios in that case. We were able to keep everyone healthy -- but we literally had only my parents over to the house regularly (they helped with the girls while DH was at work and I desperately needed an extra hand!).

We've had one cold -- in late May, I believe, and the girls handled it like champs -- a couple of days of congestion, nothing respiratory, so no issues there, either.

Coming home on o2 is a red flag for needing the strictest of illness-prevention procedures -- I can't imagine a scenario where that wouldn't be the case.

  • That logic doesn't make sense to me. Being on oxygen means the lungs are not functioning at 100% which means its extra dangerous for the child to get a respiratory infection.

  • No no no, that's not what I meant. I think what they meant is if she does get a cold or something it will assist with her breathing and not put more stress on her. I just reread what I wrote and you're right--that doesn't make sense.

    Thanks for the input!

Yeah, that makes more sense -- they had us hold on to the o2 equipment until the end of flu season last year (even though DD2 wasn't on it as of late Feb), just as a precaution.
