Preemies

I think I belong here now...

So I am only 24 weeks along and last night my water broke while I was sleeping. I have been to my local hospital and was transferred to a hospital that specializes in premies. My cervix is in tact but I'm leaking amniotic fluid. I have been ordered to bed rest in the hospital for the next 10 weeks (I am thinking positive and hope we can make it though). Even in the best case scenario, after 10 weeks, my baby boy will only be at 34 weeks. Keeping thoughts and prayers and it looks like I have a ton to learn from the board.

  • Keeping positive thoughts to you and your LO. Remain strong and positive!

  • Sorry you are finding yourself here but sending many good thoughts that you can keep him in for many more weeks.  I was on hospital bed rest at 24 weeks and made it to 28 weeks (they were also going to deliver me by 34 weeks if we got that far).  I won't lie that it will be one of the toughest things you will have to do, but it's all worth it.  Somethings that kept me going during that time were knowing that every day I was pregnant was 1-2 less days of NICU and improved outcomes for babies.
  • Good luck to you!
Hoping this one stays put a little longer

Mine broke at 30 and I made it to induction at 34. Hang in there! Praying for you and your baby.

Thank you. We're you able to take the child home or did he have to stay in the nicu? If so, how long was it until he was sent home?

  • T&Ps! Sorry you're here -- hopefully you can keep your LO baking as long as possible! I only made it 5 days on hospital BR before the girls decided to make an appearance, but here's to hoping you make it much, MUCH longer!

To answer your earlier question, a baby born even at 34 weeks will require some NICU time -- it may only be a couple of weeks (generally to master eating, at that stage -- oxygen support may not be needed).

  • Thanks everyone. My condition is stable and baby is doing great. Ill update if there is any news, but I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that the next 10 weeks are super quiet.
  • Good luck! I hope that you will be able to keep your LO in as long as possible. I also pPROM, but I had more of a tear (since I didn't have a gush) around 22 weeks and made it to 26 weeks 2 days. Hospital bedrest is hard but so important. (((Hugs)))

Oh gosh. Sorry to hear. Sending t's and p's your way. My water broke at 31 weeks and we tried to make 34 weeks but my LO wouldn't wait. He came 2 days later. He was in the NICU 37 days but is doing great. Do everything you can to keep baby cooking. That's the best place for them. Hugs!!!!

  • T&P to you and your little one! Hope you are able to keep him in as long as possible. I had a 34wk baby with severe IUGR. He was in the NICU for 2 weeks until he could tolerate full feeds and got his weight up to 4 lbs. Every baby is different though. Keep us posted.
