I've been a slacker and only made it to chapter 6. Can we just talk about the man who has having sex with his wife's urethra? How does this happen? Seriously. Wouldn't this be extremely painful for his wife? And he was so close! Wouldn't you just think he'd slip into the right spot even by accident? I just can't wrap my mind around this.
@TJ1979 I know! There's so much information, it's hard to remember it all. Last night, DH was asking me what the book was about and I just kept saying it was a scientific look at sex. He was like, well what do you mean? What have you learned? And all I could think to say was "Um...Leonardo Da Vinci was rumored to be gay?"
Yeah, I'm going to have to check in at nap time or something b/c I can't remember half of what I've read right now. Oh...one thing that I'm terribly curious about is the men who can have multiples. DH is always jokingly guilting me about the fact that he can only have one, so he wants it to last a long time and be amazing. I so want to google the "techniques" they said the guys learned, but then again, ew.
I'm through chapter 12. I made notes of the things I wanted to mention on chapters 5-8, and then left my Nook with the notes downstairs in the Mother's Room. Ugh. Sorry ladies.
I will say chapters 10-12 were hilarious! I don't want to give anything away, but I can't wait till next week to discuss. Let me just say the chapter on Shafik (I think I spelled that right) is my favorite so far. Rats in pants. Ha!
Definite eww on the urethra sex. That seriously made me shudder.
I just finished chapter 6 last night - so I feel less behind now :-)
DH is excited to read it after me, so I've had to restrain myself from reading tidbits aloud to him. I spend half the time giggling, and the other half the time a little horrified. I just finished reading about skinning penises for ED-fixing, and well, I'm a little horrified.
I also wish there had been a little more information on fertility and orgasms. Though I do like what one fertility doctor said - that for some people struggling with infertility, the last thing he wanted to do was to put that added pressure on the sex calendar.

Oh! Yes! That was one of the items on my list! I did not realize Leonardo was rumored to have never been with a woman. Shocking!

Urethra sex....omg, why did she even let him try that? Was she unaware that there is a much bigger hole?!!! I'm already excited for the next book we choose. Sorry ladies but I get so nauseous reading this book sometimes lol
Okay, I'm back... The urethra part bothered me, but at least he wasn't quite as far off as the pandas who have no idea at all where to put it. And part of me still wonders if there was any bow-chicka-bow music on the "panda porn" video. It would be hilarious if they managed to condition the pandas like Pavlov's dogs so that they hear a certain song and start humping. (Dang, I really am a 13 year old boy sometimes.) I've also pondered far too long on the amusement factor of having a penis that will bend into position "like a gooseneck lamp." I picture one of those ridged bendy straws and the noise it makes when you crook it into position.
I definitely am with @candlequeen on the nausea factor at times. It's hard to read about the implants (especially the ones that don't stay put) without shuddering. On the plus side, I am actually learning some useful things. I SO wish I could loan this book to my cousin who just got married. (Dang digital technology limits!) She's a nurse, so I think she could handle the frank and the freaky.
Yeah...how do you mistake the urethra for the vagina. I mean...really? Wasn't that extremely painful???
I remember the first time I tried tampons. I was only clueless for about 5 seconds and realized "Okay, there's only one place for this bad boy to go" Lol.
And, I find myself feeling sad when I read about the animals in zoos/stables/factories reproducing (or being forced to reproduce). The part about the animals being killed right after mating (this may be more from the beginning chapters) just to check where the semen had traveled to in just a few seconds, really made me sad.
I find myself giggling and crossing my legs on a lot of parts. The whole "degloving the penis" was rough.
@tj1979, I loved the leaning members part too! The majority is to the left, which is hysterical and puzzling at the same time. Why?
I think I'm around chapter 12 and I don't remember what was in what chapter. I don't want to say too much, but the penile implants was almost disturbing. Have you all gotten to the part discussing pumps for women (like penis pumps)?
I think that might be chapter 9 or 10. That was pretty interesting, but don't want to give away too much since a lot haven't read it yet.
Can I be super nerdy :-B :-B :-B and make a suggestion @stoneycakes? Would it be possible to have the check in be a little more involved? Like maybe specific questions on each chapter to get a discussion going? I don't know, I think it's the English literature major in me that feels like I want and need some "study questions" to go along with our check ins. Is there any way we might be able to do this? (Wow! Somebody needs to go back to school to have her nerd needs met!)
EDITED typo. stupid English degree not portraying itself well
lol. I'm not meaning for it to be homework! But just to read for more of a purpose and try to get some conversations going...as if we were all sitting with each other IRL

I need to start taking notes because there were at least 3 things I wanted to mention, and now I can't think of them. I suck at book club.
