Belly Mapping

Has anyone else tried belly mapping? I found the link on the spinning babies site and thought I'd give it a try... You draw a diagram of where you feel bulges and movement and it gives you charts with baby positions... I *think* DD has flipped to head down, I have a big bulge that would be her body on my left side and a second bulge on my right side that I assume are feet... I also *think* I can follow her thigh and shin to her feet... So she's water head down in the LOA position, or frank breech... I have an appt tomorrow, so I'll see what my midwife thinks...

Anyone else try it?

You lost me at the end because frank breech = butt first.
But maybe I read the sentence wrong?

I can tell how mine is by where I feel kicks and her body/butt.
She's head down facing my back and right,.yesterday she was facing left and back and really bulging on the right of my belly.

I'm assuming (more like hoping) she's head down with her butt on the left and her feet on the right... But,I included frank breech because I could be wrong and her head is actually on the left and her feet are on the right... (she was breech at my growth scan 2 weeks ago)

Its hard to go by her movements because I get lighter taps and occasional strong jabs (punches and headbutts maybe) down low by my pubic bone... And I get pops and stretching up under my right ribs... Very confusing little girl!

  • My LO is head down , butt on left by belly bottom and feet kicking on my right side. Like an L shape according to my midwife this past Monday! So you might be right about your LO too ;;) hopefully he stay head down! [-O<
  • I'd ask your midwife to show you/explain when she measures your fundal height to see if she can tell.  I was pretty sure LO was head down because of the pressure in my pelvis, limbs on the left because that's where I feel the super short/close together jabs-- wasn't sure if his body was on my right side or right in the middle.  My midwife showed me (like grabbed my hands and put them where she felt stuff) and explained to me where she felt stuff, etc. Since then I've been able to see/feel limbs moving across the front of my belly (still not sure if it was an arm or leg) which was cool but at the same time freaky, and it confirms that the dull but larger area pressure on my right side is his butt, while the jabs on the left are hands and feet.  It's so cool knowing how these babies are laying in there!

    Hope your appointment is great!

  • My MW does a variation of that to check positioning and so far LO has been head down, butt/back on my right side and feet over in my left hip pretty much every appointment. I guess baby doesn't like to rearrange the furniture much, lol.

  • At my last appt I was 34 weeks and while I was lying on my back my doctor just felt low on my belly with his thumb & index finger and said 'And that's a head!' ......... I was like what the heck!!! How come I can't feel it like that!

But anyways- I've never been able to tell position by movement/bulges etc... I'm just happy he's head down :)
  • When my LO flipped at 30 weeks I totally knew it. I haven't had tons of movement but it felt like she was going to bust out all of the sudden. It scared me for a minutes then it was feeling normal again. A few days later the doc said she was head down. At that pint she was just about 3lbs. I'm guessing you would feel them flip especially if they're bigger than that..unless maybe you were sleeping. FX your LO finally flipped.

I can only assume after trying belly mapping this evening that LO has grown extra appendages since the last u/s and they are arranged around the body like an octopus.  Only then do the movements make sense...  either that or he is just stretching his legs making his butt jab me on one side while his feet do on the other.

ETA: I need practice spelling butt apparently.
