we used the sippy cup with the nipple like looks like a bottle with handles like Nuby makes to help him learn to hold it. after about a month with that he knew how to hold it. it looks like this

I prop him on a boppy and gave him the bottle. He would drop it at first and is have to put it back in place a lot, but he learned. I think the sippy cup thing is a waste since at 1 year they shouldn't be on a sippy cup since they aren't good for their teeth. Straw cups are what we're learning now top switch to by 1 year.

Straw cups are better but lots of kids use sippy cups while transitioning from bottles to regular cups. Just don't give them juice in them and don't let them walk around with it in their mouth like a pacifier.
We mainly use straw cups with DS but I think your post will make parents think that sippy cups shouldn't be used at all and IMO, that isn't the case.
I dunno. I know it's my opinion, but I wouldn't want to waste money on things that are supposed to be stopped at 1 year. More so since studies do show that extended sippy cup usage is just as bad or worse since the valves on some are bigger than bottles or binkies. We stop both tgose thing just before or at 1 year. I have a niece that needs sous dental work because of sippies and binky usage abd she's 2.5.
