Question

I'm heavy and I already took my GTT which came back perfectly fine, as every fasting glucose and random finger stick has. My MFM dr yesterday told me I would have to take it again at 32-34 weeks anyone else have to repeat the test after everything comes back perfectly normal?

Yea I guess I will just buy the kit and start taking note of my numbers for them.... I'm going to ask my regular OB next Friday as well. I know she is only looking out for me but I'm kinda feeling like she thinks because I'm heavy I can not control my diet:( I have changed alot I drink water most days, I eat alot of fresh fruit and veggies I portion control. I just feel blah...

I never experienced this (I had GD both pregnancies) but I've heard that a lot of times they will repeat test later in 3rd tri just to play it safe. It's all because GD is hormone-related so things can change quickly the further along you get. It depends on your OB. A lot of practices are going to stricter guidelines for GD.

I had to take the one hour twice this time. It's really not a big deal imo.

ME TOO! I was pretty mad about it too since though I am obese, I have had a great pregnancy with no issues and having gained less than 10 lbs.  However, the doc was concerned that given my weight and the fact that my parents are diabetics, that it could pop up.  He said that if every doc checked their patients again after 30w, the stats would be a lot higher...and all I could think of was, yeah, but they DON'T! Grrrr Anyway, I was first checked the first week they would usually test, so he tested me again at 31w...I'm 34w now and NO ISSUES.  I passed with flying colors again.  I feel like when you're overweight, you're a health target - which kinda makes sense bc, yes, overweight people do tend to have more issues, but I don't...and I was starting to feel like he was looking for something to go wrong.  Ok...that got a bit ranty.  Sorry! Do it again... better safe than sorry and it'll be fine if you have it and if you don't, that'll be good too!

Excatly the only health issues I have, have nothing to do with my weight I have inherited hypertension, and seizures. But neither one has had anything to do with this pregnancy yet I mean there is always that chance but I keep pretty good eyes on my health. I walk alot cause I can not drive so I have to walk to get to the places I need to go. It is ok I will take the test again in a few weeks and when that comes back fine hopefully she will back off. I have only gained 9 pounds which I'm very proud of it means I have had control this pregnancy, now if I could get rid of being tired all the time and the nasty pelvic pain I could resume a normal exercise routine...

Just a thought....if you are concerned about weight gain (either gaining too much or too little) and are feeling blah, as in a lack of energy or excess fatigue....have them test your thyroid levels. I'm not heavy but was experiencing some issues hormonally, with fatigue and such and sure enough, I am hypothyroid. It's a super easy condition to control and monitor. If there is no concern for it then just ignore me. ;) ETA...autocorrect

I asked about taking it early because I have risk factors. They said if I did I'd have to redo it at 28 weeks. Did you take it early?

  • Options
Nope I took it at 27 weeks
