Cloth Diapering

Diapers from alvababy . Com?

Has any one bought and used the one size pocket diapers (ai2 - all in 2?)? If so what are your thoughts do they work well? The prices seem almost too good to be true (granted I've only just started looking into purchasing cloth diapers).

  • How well they work is hit and miss and it really depends on the shape of your baby from what I can see. Their leg openings seem to be on the larger side so if your baby has skinny legs you might have issues with fit early on and have leaks. We have 6 of their NB diapers, 1 of their OS, and 6 of their OS that are 'on their way' but I ordered the 4th and they're still not here but who knows since it hasn't been a full month yet. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try since they are so cheap. I spent $30 on the last 6 diapers from them. Wouldn't be as big of a loss say if I bought 6 Charlie Bananas brand new for $100+ and they didn't work out for us. But I'm fully aware that there is a high chance they may not work for us so I won't be mad at Alva if they don't lol I mean it is a $5-6 diaper. I wouldn't go and make my whole stash Alvas though that's for sure. We just got them mainly as fillers until we can replace them with nicer brands unless of course they actually work out for us.

A lot of people have issues with buying directly from China so that's one thing to be aware of. Then there is the whole "they're print thieves" things and there are people that refuse to buy them because of that. And then there is the issue on them not being in compliance with CPSIA and going against US patents. There is a lot of back and forth about Alva and in a lot of groups and cloth forums you'll start to notice this.

If you're ok with the above sure, go ahead and try them. Imo you really aren't losing out unless you buy a complete stash of them and they don't end up working but tbh I wouldn't buy a complete stash of any brand. When it comes to cheaper diapers I really like my Kawaii over my Alvas in terms of quality but since DS isn't due for a while I have to try anything. I plan to order some of the new pockets from Nicki's since they're about $10 right now if you're willing to spend a little more.

I'm pretty sure there are few other moms on here who have actually used them or use them that maybe be able to help you out a bit more on how well they work though.

  • Love my alvas. Half my stash are alvas. After 18 months they are still in great condition. I have a super skinny kid and the fit is great, though they didn't fit him until ten pounds or so.

  • They're okay and work for us. The insert that comes with the diaper isn't the best - I really like their MF/bamboo blend inserts and the bamboo, though. The price is right, and I just can't get worked up on the "ethical" issues that put some people off.

Kawaii is another bargain brand - I think their diapers and inserts are better quality. theluvyourbaby.com is their site. They ship from Canada (but are made in China).
  • Oh ya, I forgot to mention the insert thing... Their microfiber inserts are total junk. I like their four layer blend inserts or I just stuff it with a prefolds or a flat.

  • I LOVE mine. They didn't start fitting DD3 until she was about 5 months and 13 lbs (she has long skinny legs), but they fit perfectly now. I don't use MF inserts, so I use either bamboo or blend inserts in mine.

  • I forgot to add that I am not a huge fan of their NB diapers. They just never fit that well for us.

Oh, and to add, the Kawaii OS diapers still don't fit DD3 well (with the exception of the GNHW). I do LOVE the Kawaii P&Ns.

  • Ive tried rebranded Alva's but they just didn't fit DD properly and we got a lot of leaks. That said, I know people who use them regularly w no probls. I guess they're like every other dipe - work for some, not for others.

kawaii is our go-to brand - cheap and awesome! Ive tried other, more expensive brands, but nothing worked as well as Kawaii for us.
