Stroller question for 2nd time moms

I'm currently working on a registry and am struggling with deciding between three different strollers.
  1. The first is a Graco travel system which seems practical but not as pretty as options two and three.
  2. The second is a pretty red Britax travel system but it doesn't have any cup holders.
  3. The last option is the Countours Bliss 4-in-1. Also pretty and I really like the bassinet-like option; however, it doesn't bring an infant car seat. I am registered for a convertible car seat so having an infant car seat is not necessarily that important... yet I wonder how many moms found it easier to take out the infant car seat when the baby was sleeping and attach it to the stroller frame rather than removing the baby from the cat seat and placing in the stroller??
What do you ladies think?

Re: Stroller question for 2nd time moms

  • You do not want to wake up a happily sleeping baby to put them into a stroller, that sucks! You go from having quiet mommy shopping time to carrying a crying baby and pushing an empty stroller! Haaa
You'll find many different answers here. I gotthe chico keyfit carseat and a snapngo stroller base. You just click baby directly into the base. We got her a joovy scooter when she was older. I liked both.

  • FTM here, but I know every single stroller brand has accessories you can buy - you can buy one or even two cup holders for it. I think they even make generic ones that are cheaper that snap on, if you don't like the ones britax has. My cousin got that travel system for her couple week old baby boy and she LOVES it. I've heard good things.

  • You might also want to consider the Baby Jogger City Select, lots of friends that like those. The seat completely comes off and you can put the car seat on, so it's lighter when you take it places. It's a little pricier than the britax, but it has the option of becoming a double later on. You have a bassinet option as well and can forward and rear face the regular stroller seat.

  • I have used the Britax B-Agile for the past 18 months and I absolutely LOVE it! We compared it to the city mini at BRU and just fell in love with it. It's so light weight and easy to fold one handed. I know it doesn't have a cup holder, but the Britax parent console you can buy separately is awesome and works great. When DS got around 12 months we bought the child's tray for it too. I'd highly recommend checking it out. Oh and the B-Safe car seat snaps right in very securely. We used them both together for as long as we could because it was so nice not to have to buckle and unbuckle baby from the carseat.

  • The Britax is the "knock off" of the Baby Jogger City Mini. I have the City Mini & for that the cup holders, and child trays, etc are sold as separate attachments. I would assume Britax went with the same thing with that. That being said, it's a fantastic stroller to push around. Super easy to maneuver which I've head travel systems are not. Maybe go on amazon & read some reviews from people who bought them...

  • I agree with PP, you don't want to wake a sleeping newborn to move him/her to a stroller.  Also, chances are wherever your going you'll be carrying other things (coats, diaper bag, purse, shopping bags, etc.)  It's so much easier to just lift the car seat.  We switched my son to a convertable seat when he was closer to 7-8 months just because he looked so uncomfortable in the infant seat.  It was a huge difference carrying a squirmy baby into stores vs. just plopping the carseat inside a shopping cart or stroller.

We got the Chicco Keyfit travel system, and loved it the first few months, but once he had good head control we really never used that stroller again.  Too big and bulky... he almost always went in our lightweight stroller.

  • Im a FTM and don't really know too much about strollers. But Ive heard britax is a good choice !! AND I like the red !!

While we are on the discussion of strollers / carseats. Has any STM'S OR FTM'S purchased this one ? Im in the same boat I cant find one I like , im a FTM but would like something that's kind of gender neutral because I would like to have another baby after this one. SOrry for posting here I didn't want to start a new thread while we are on this discussion. Thanks.

  • I agree with wanting the infant seat if you will be driving places and taking baby out. They will stay sleeping and contained, plus you can have toys attached to the handle that could come in handy.

For the stroller itself, I think it really depends on your budget and where you will be using it most. We got the Graco travel system for DS and loved it. It can be a little bulky but it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, plus you don't need to buy any other attachments for it.

  • Personally I definitely think the infant seat is necessary in the early days when they sleep a ton, but I am also on my third kid and don't really want to have to buckle/unbuckle three car seats at every stop until absolutely necessary ;)

As far as strollers, we chose to go with a lighter stroller compatible with our infant seat instead of a travel system, as those strollers tend to be bulky and difficult to maneuver. Our infant seat is a Graco SnugRide 32 (now the 30 or 35, I believe) and our stroller is a Graco Mosaic. It's a nice compromise between a travel system stroller and an umbrella stroller, IMO, and lucky me the print on the seat and the stroller matched :)

  • @babycaps, reread the end of OP's question. She did ask about infant seats there. I do agree with you that not everyone needs them, but I know I sure did!

This!  I also did the Chicco with the snap and go but found that the snap n go was a little short for me so I got a  Chicco liteway plus that the infant seat attaches to and then it is also a regular light weight stroller.

Ill add that I am 5foot3" so strollers fit me easily. Heres my joovy stroller...

  • I would vote the Britax system. Although I would consider the City Select like a PP recommended as well, or the City Mini with the car seat accessory so you can use whatever infant seat you want. We have the City Mini and just got the City Select for our double but have been using it as a single for the time being. I LOVE them both and cant say enough good things about it! We had a Graco Travel system first and it suuuuuuucked! I hated it so much and that's how we ended up with the City Mini. Best investment ever!

OP did not ask about waking up or not waking up a sleeping baby!  This has come up several times.  For some people, it's NOT A BIG DEAL to wake up a sleeping baby to move the baby.  Sound sleeping babies fall back asleep.  Many people just don't DRIVE ENOUGH around with babies to run errands to warrant the need for a bucket seat!!!
She asked about strollers!!!  Not the need for a bucket seat.  Yup, this is a rant.  I get it. but I'm honestly tired of all the "but you don't want to wake up a sleeping baby" shit!  We'll learn, some of us will regret not having a bucket seat, but is it REALLY that hard to go buy one IF you need it?  no!

    @babycaps
Why don't you re-read the post, once you take all of that information in perhaps you could remove the stick from your ass before addressing the March board again. Nobody likes an asshat.

  • I went with a snap-n-go and the Britax B-Agile.  I used the snap-n-go for most of the first year, it was the easiest, lightest and had the best basket.  I love the Britax too, don't use it often because DD prefers to walk.  I know its very similar to the City mini, but honestly when I tried them out the city mini had a rougher ride. I don't mind travel systems but they do seem bulky. I had an infant attachment for the Britax that I used for the carrier when I wanted to use that instead. I suggest trying them out in the store if you can.  Look at functionality and ease. As PP's have said many come with attachment accessories.

This exactly! We still use our stroller all the time and my son is 19 months. Only I had the chaperone car seat and used the adapter with non problem.

Seriously, @babycaps, and you wonder why people ask if you're a FTM. We get it--you have a chip on your shoulder about being a FTM. Note that this is a post where she's asking STMs for advice. And all sound sleeping babies just fall back to sleep? Hahahahaha

I love the Baby Jogger City Mini but I'd have to buy the infant car seat separately and this would make the stroller "system" more costly than the Britax :-/

I really knew absolutely NOTHING about strollers so thank you everyone. Now that I know I can buy the accessories separately and that most of you agree that not waking a sleeping baby is a big deal, I'm strongly leaning towards the Britax.

  • OP--some people really like travel systems, but a lot of us don't. They are usually heavier and the strollers aren't as good as others on the market. I went with a snap and go for my infant car seat. It's SO light and easy and the basket is huge--that's especially important in the beginning when you pack any and everything in your diaper bag because you don't know exactly what you'll need. My DD is a giant so we were out of the infant seat by 6mo (so sad--I miss the convenience!) and then we switched to a City Mini. I guess just be sure that you really love the actual stroller and that it's light and easy for how you plan to use it. My only regret is that I didn't pony up for the City Select since we knew we'd try again and that one converts to a double. The City Select is amazeballs.

  • We had a Graco travel system and it was great. Look for a stroller with lots of storage space. I regularly skip the cart and just load up the stroller while shopping. Especially when baby is in the infant seat. I also agree with the others that an infant seat attachment is more useful than a bassinet. For me, it's less about waking the baby and more about the hassle of buckling and unbuckling. GL!

  • I have had about 4 different systems and by far I love my uppa baby. I bought a peg preggo infant seat and bought the attachment. It's easy to click in and click out of stroller and car. I love the uppa because it comes with the bassinet option which I surprisingly used so often. The stroller it self is bulky but I have a mini can and I figure that's what the space in the back is for. I was one of those people at the baby boutique shop pushing around every stroller and had hubby price comparing on amazon and google. It was expensive but out of all that I've owed I've really enjoyed it.

  • Britax sells accessories like the cup holders separately. I think they're available online at target.com among other online sites. I recently got the britax travel system and plan on registering for the accessories.

p.s. They even have a sun/bug guard for the car seat! Not sure why I'm so excited for this, but just go with it ;)

  • Get a lightweight stroller that is easy to maneuver. I have the city mini, but britax is a good option too. I had the adaptor for the bucket seat on it. I had a borrowed the bucket seat from a friend, but this time around I would get a cheaper lower weight requirement bucket seat. The 30 somethings are heavier and DD is 2 and he is still under 30 pounds, so I could have done with the 20 something pound weight one.
