Who here has Mirena? Especially c section moms

My high blood pressure came back after starting back on the pill. I never had high blood pressure before kids, but I got pregnancy induced hypertension and apparently now my body is screwed forever, joy.

Anyway my doctor suggested getting a Mirena since that is more high bp friendly. I am scared it will hurt. I never labored. How bad does it hurt? We plan on TTC in 15-24 months depending - was the pain worth it for that length of time? (we do hate condoms)

  • I had paraguard inserted which is similar.  I wouldn't say it hurt or was painful.  There was one point where a gasped like a pinch but other then that it was more uncomfortable.  I had cramps afterwards but that is more of a paraguard side effect then mirena I think.

  • First time (pre labor) it was the most painful thing I'd ever experienced. Second time, about 6 months pp I was like "that was it?!" So to me it is worth it

  • I got Mirena in February (after my 2nd c section and a LEEP procedure) and it was VERY uncomfortable for me. It was a weird pinch feeling. After I had cramps for a few days and bled for a little over a week. Now I don't spot or have a period but when I am ovulating its like I can feel it. Overall, I like it. So I say it's worth it.

  • I should say I bled for a REALLY long time after. Like 8 weeks. Not more than pantiliner level but it would stop for a day, come back...it finally has seemed to stop now.
Another pro: I never got PP AF!

  • I had a c-section and had Mirena inserted ~12 weeks PP. Insertion was maybe 10 minutes of pretty uncomfortable (think cervical check, but the procedure lasts a bit longer), then a day or two of cramps/low level discomfort. I had maybe two weeks of light bleeding (panty liner) and until last month, had hardly any period (maybe a day of spotting). Last month was the period from hell- cramps, PMS, heavy flow for 8 or 9 days. I think it's worth it overall thought.

  • I had vaginal deliveries with both boys, but I got Mirena in at my 6 week pp appointment after DS2. Hurt like a bitch. I cramped really bad and my doc made me lay there for a half hour. I also almost passed out afterward, but got really sick in the bathroom instead :(

That wasn't the worst of it. I bled for a few days, then from November when I had it inserted until April when I had that sucker taken out, I bled/spotted the WHOLE time.

It also hurt to have sex for me. They adjusted the thing twice, two different doctors since I had changed OBGYNs in March. Snipped the strings as much as they could. Yeah, DH could still feel those suckers. Felt like we were both being stabbed or "pitchforked" as @BandEddie might refer to it.

I realize I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum than many, but the whole experience was pure hell for me. Never again.
