Crib Transition

Well, we're finally ending bed sharing and getting Cade into his own room. He's very different from Rosie. Rosie just kind of decided one day around 7 months that she wanted her own bed and slept in the crib great. When we sleep trained a little later (since she still slept with me partly) we did ferber and crying never bothered her. Cade though is awful when he cries. He gets himself all worked up and shoves his fingers down his throat to make himself puke or gag. He's puked a few times from crying already.

Anyways, since he needs a little more gentle approach. What should I do? He sleeps fairly well. Though I think he needs his bed time changed to 8pm instead of 10 since he takes a nap about then now and wakes up between 8-9:30. I'm just at a complete loss as to what to do with him. We are still another 1-2 weeks away from finishing his room. We're still in the painting, cleaning, and decorating phase. Once thats done though we'll be full force into sleep training/crib transition. Thanks!

Re: Crib Transition

  • Ava Nichol would get totally worked up and basically inconsolable if you let her cry for too long so I did a modified CIO. We have always rocked/held her until she falls asleep and then put her in bed but it was nighttime wake ups that got us. I will pat her back and sing/hum Mary had a little lamb and when I am done I say goodnight and leave. Then I give her 1 min of crying, next 3 min, then 5 min and I have never gone over 10 minutes but I have never needed to. Also when I go back in I just tuck her back in and tell her it is night night, I love you and goodnight.

Most of the time when she was like 6mo or older she just needed her binky so we solved that by always keeping an extra binky in there.
