Clingly little one

All of a sudden my lo has turned into a clingly little monster that wants to be carried just about 24/7! I know at daycare the ladies are holding him constantly and love it because he cuddles with them. They all say how sweet he is and how he is the only one that is so loving and sweet. But its becoming an issue for me at home. I mean try to cook or eat dinner with lo behind you crying cause he wants to be held. Anyone have any ideas on getting his confidence up, indepenece, feel more secure?

Not sure if its just amplified after spending 14 days with me on vacation....

Re: Clingly little one

  • Talk to the daycare ladies about not holding him all the time. If they are concerned about him crying when not being held, tell them it is okay with you for him to cry for X amount of time before they stop trying redirection and go for the cuddle.

At home, don't hold him when he asks for it. Sit on the floor with him and play with him sitting next to you. Or start with him in your lap and move him to the floor.

Around here, clingyness is a sign on growing (physically or developmentally) or teething. If DD is getting in the way and DH isn't here to help, I tell her to go find her monkey (special stuffed animal). Or go read a book to the cat. If it gets really bad, she gets to watch an episode of Curious George (I DVR them). That is usually enough to distract her that even when it is over, she goes back to playing.
