DH vetoed one of my favorite girl names, Odelia. So what are your thoughts on Odessa

I like it a lot but I wouldn't be brave enough to use it. Same goes with Odelia.

It's Nathalie. That's the French spelling of Natalie, pronounced the same. We really need something that's spelled the same in French and English this time! Just at the brainstorming stage right now.

I spent many many nights in a bar named Odessa, so that's all I think about.  I don't love the name but if there is meaning in it for you, I say go for it. I wouldn't side-eye it, but I would assume the parents had a connection to the Ukraine.

Odessa is a city near Tampa too. I can't even think of it as a name.

I had no idea there were so many Odessas! I was thinking of Odessa, MO, which I've never been to. We just pass it on the Interstate when we're traveling to see family. And I recall an Odessa, KS from my days as a college admissions secretary.

Thanks for the opinions, wasn't as bad as I expected! I usually hate place names with a passion but this one for some reason doesn't bother me, I think it's cute. Probably because the Ukraine is much more foreign to me than places like Paris and Brooklyn. I had no idea there were so many Odessa in the US. I bet DH vetoes it though.
