Sleep help needed!

Hello Ladies,

I need some help/advice regarding my 11 month old boys and their sleeping.  Up until 4 weeks ago they were great sleepers.  I followed HSHHC and have the boys on a really great schedule...they have been sleeping through the night since they were about 8 wks old.  In the last few weeks my baby A has been waking up 3-4 times and screaming.  Not just lightly crying but screaming as though he is being tortured.  We've been going in and picking him up and calming him down and he'll go back to sleep within a few minutes.

The big problem is that Baby A will wake up Baby B who gets very upset, cries and then vomits (3 times last night).   For the most part I think Baby B is still a good sleeper, it's his brother that causes the problems.  I'd like to keep them in the same room as the other bedrooms are on a different level.

Should I put Baby A in a temporary (bathroom) bedroom and let him CIO or do you have any other suggestions?  We are at our wits end.....

Re: Sleep help needed!

  • One of my boys randomly started crying hysterically in his crib when he was about that age. One night I quick grabbed a blankie for him and he never did it again. I have no idea why that worked but it did. Is there some kind of lovey he likes during the day or at nap time you can give him at night?

After I did that for one kid, about 2 months later the other kid did the exact same thing. The blankie worked for him too. Someone told me babies' sleep gets crappy right before they walk (or get mobile if they aren't crawling yet). So that might be another factor. It didn't line up for my boys but hey.

  • They both have "blankies" and paci's.  I keep thinking that it's teething but he doesn't have any cutting that I can see at the moment.  They aren't walking yet but close....
  • I'd be tempted to take him to the Dr just to make sure he's not sick. My girls always have stealth ear infections causing night wakings.  Assuming he's well, I might put the other child (the good sleeping one) in a pack and play somewhere else for a few nights and let the waking child CIO in his own bed, then put your other son back in the room when all is well.
