Water help? — The Bump
Pregnant after IF

Water help?

Does anyone have any water drinking tips?  I am currently both pregnant, and breastfeeding.  I typically drink about 100 oz. of water a day because I am usually thirsty all.the.time.  But recently, I have been so nauseous, and water makes me feel like I am going to throw up.  I am down to maybe 16 oz. a day, and I know this is not nearly enough.  Help!  What works for you?  Did you go through this phase?  When did it get better?
Thanks in advance ladies!

  • I have been wondering the thing and feeling very strange that water makes me nauseous, but I'm super thirsty. I agree that ice water helps and I drink out of a straw and take a few sips at a time.

  • Sparkling water, adding fruit (even an orange slice), or adding some juice could help. Gatorade and the like is also really good at this time. If cold water isn't working maybe some decaf iced tea or hot tea if the mood is right.

    Sorry you're dealing with this.

  • Does drinking through a straw help?
It's probably totally in my head, but it seems to help me control better. I'm really thirsty, but when I gulp, I feel like I take too much in and get that gross, sloshing water feeling in my stomach that feels like it's going to come back up. With a straw, I limit myself to one or two sips at a time and it seems to "feel" better. Again, probably a mental thing more than anything! :)

  • During 1st trimester, I was cutting up some ginger and boiling it in water to make a tea.   Then cooled it down in a jug in the fridge and added ice to it.  (So basically it was iced ginger tea).  That helped a lot...although now I can't even stand the smell of ginger, so maybe I had too much of a good thing!

  • I 100% agree with the straw!  For some reason I drink more with a straw.

I still have a hard time getting all of my water in for the day.  I add orange, cucumber, or lemon slices to it for some flavor.

100 oz. isn't a goal I'd ever be able to make.  Shew.

  • I was drinking lemon water, but with the vomiting I had to stop b/c it was awful on my throat.  Right now I am drinking 1/2 a glass of powerade and 1/2 water with lots of ice, through a straw.  The straw helps a lot because I don't have to open my mouth much and I can take super tiny sips.

I am not drinking near as much as I should, but if I can drink a few full glasses a day, and keep them in, I am counting it as a victory.
