Sick boy, just days before party!

I know I don't post a whole lot, since I see patients all day at work and can't get on here much. But, low and behold, I'm home with a sick baby boy. Has been fighting a 101ish fever since yesterday. Took him to the doctor and his ears are fine. Said his throat is red and strep results are pending, but highly unlikely. DH took him to the doctor yesterday and "they ran some other test but I forget what it was for. It was negative though!" Maybe a prelim/in-house strep test?
Anyhoot, just want to vent a little. I love hanging out with you ladies, but not at the expense of a sick baby. His first birthday party is this Saturday, too. I'm hoping the fever will run its typical 3ish day course and be gone tomorrow or Friday? I work with cancer patients who have different kind of fevers, so I feel like little baby fevers are Greek to me. They typically last just a few days, right?!?! I need a glimmer of hope!!

Both my kids were sick for their 1st bday parties. DS had a double ear infection, but we didn't know it until the day after & DD was having a bad reaction to her shots & had a fever the day before her party. Luckily she was fever free by the next day, but still wasn't really herself.
