1 nap transition

Taylor is going through another refuse-the-2nd-nap phase. She did this a couple months ago, and I considered letting her drop the second nap, but after a week she began sleeping in the afternoon again and I figured she was just teething. The last week or so, though, she refuses to nap for my mom or H in the afternoon. On my days off, she will nap for me, but it takes her longer to go to sleep and the nap is a lot shorter. The problem is, whether she takes one nap or two, she is always exhausted about 2 hours after waking up in the morning. Is it ok if they take their one nap in the morning and stay awake all day afterward? Or is it better to put the nap in the middle of the day?

Re: 1 nap transition

  • This is us exactly right now! I'm currently keeping him up today and doing an earlier lunch and then plan to put him down around 12:30-1 for one nap. He always went down easy for a morning nap, but afternoon has been a struggle. So I don't have any good advice other than to try different things and see what works. We're going to try this for a couple days. It's hard to transition, that's for sure!

  • We went to what daycare was doing and put her nap in the middle of the day right after lunch so that it is at the same times. Except MH who is determined she will take a nap in the morning with him, and I guess I'm jealous she will still nap on him. I miss that.

  • I don't think emery would make it at the end of the day with just the morning nap. I had to move up her one nap to 11/12. Then again she was refusing her 9am nap so...

  • We dropped the morning nap and moved the afternoon one a bit earlier. As pp said do whatever works best for you.

  • We moved to 1 nap when Dagny started refusing her morning one. We moved her afternoon one to after lunch. She was only napping for 45 min in the morning anyway so no way that would be enough sleep for her during the day. How long is her morning nap?

  • If DS has only a morning nap, I'll put him down for an afternoon "lie down" where he just chills in his crib for a little while. Sometimes he falls asleep and sometimes he just stares at the ceiling, but either way he gets a little afternoon rest.

  • Were at one nap. Hes usually down by noon and is up between 2:30-3:00. We had to move his bedtime up to 8:30 to eliminate a 4 am wake up call. So now he's down by 8:30 and up at 7 I'm loving it!!!

  • Thanks for the advice laides. Of course today I tried to keep her up 3 hours in the AM instead of two, and now she's babbling in her crib refusing to sleep. WTF child???
