30 minutes is not a bad commute at all. Pretty typical here.

Of course, I've now witnessed a few cases first hand at my company where we had 2-3 good candidates interview and the final decision was a tough one. I'm sorry you didn't get the position, but even getting an interview normally means they were seriously interested.
