Wren?

Is Wren actually popular, or does it just come up a lot on this board? I've read a lot of posts about it but have never heard it in real life.

Re: Wren?

  • I have never met one irl even remotely.   I asbolutely love it and would be top contender for us if we had another dd but unfortuntely don't love the flow with our ln
  • I don't know any IRL.

Well, I'll put it this way.

I just did a search on the SSA site to see where Wren ranks (I entered 50 years), I got this message.

Wren is not in the top 1000 names for any year of birth in the last 50 years.

  • It's not popular.  I think a lot of posts here inspire other posters-- which IMO is a great thing.

Exactly what I was going to say. It's like Archer/Asher IMO. I don't know any IRL but it comes up a lot here. I love Wren.

  • It just comes up here a lot. It's a nice one-syllable name that works well as a MN, so I think that's why it's suggested so frequently. I love it! I wish it didn't sound so dumb with our LN.

I agree.  I have to keep this in mind sometimes.  The "popular" names on this board do not necessarily reflect what is considered popular in real life, or in certain areas.

The only Wrens I know of don't exist in real life actually... Two are from television shows, and one is from a comic strip.

    Edit to fix punctuation.

  • It's not at all popular in my area or on the SSA list but I do see it on this board a lot and I really like it! I know of one person who recently used it as a mn for her little girl and they live in Maine. Other than that, I have never heard it used in real life.

  • Thank you for asking.  I am always astonished by how much love "Wren" gets on this board.  What's up with that???

Is this the "Robin" of the 2010's?  Think about that.  Robin seems very dated now.  In 30 years, Wren will too.

  • Our friends have a 4 year old named Wren. Also, the name Asher is super popular in my world.. From east coast to west coast, in the last 5 years, several of my friends have named their boys Asher.

I don't know any Wrens IRL, but I know the song Jenny Wren by Paul McCartney. I love the name.

Also: I know three Ashers all under 6 years old.

  • I don't know any IRL but it is definitely on my list.  We have a 3 syllable LN so 1 syllable FN work well.
