Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Any ideas? Foot rash.

About 10 days ago, DD started saying, "Foot, owie".  When we looked at her foot, it was a little pink on the arch, but nothing major.  She kept randomly saying, "Foot owie".  Then, about 5 days ago, the foot started looking a little brighter pink on the arch and she started rubbing her feet together furiously.  I tried EVERYTHING and nothing calmed down the itching or pain.  I finally got steroid cream today and am hoping it works.

We took her into the weekend pedi and they thought plantar dermatosis which is quite uncommon in a 16 month old.  It does make sense, though, her feet are very sweaty and we had them in her Nikes with no socks for a few days.

Well, fast foward to tonight.  I took her socks off (her feet WERE warm) and the entire bottom of the foot had VERY faint pink spots (I mean you had to REALLY look to see them) on it along with the pinkish/reddish tinge to the arch. They seemed to fade once the warmth went away, but the pinkish tinge remained, and seems to now be affecting the other foot.

Of course, my hypochondriac self cannot let this go.  I will probably be taking her to her pedi tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas that aren't anything scary.  Dr. Google is being a real b!tch on this one and getting my mind racing.

Re: Any ideas? Foot rash.

  • Hi.  My daughter had hand foot mouth disease, but only had blisters in her mouth.  Im wondering if your daughter could have that, but only have a reaction on her feet.  When my daughter had this she did have a fever for a couple of days, followed by the oral blisters.

If it is this- the good news is it is a virus and will clear up on its own.  The bad news is it is a virus and there is not much that can be done.

For her and your sake, I hope it is something less painful and clears up soon!

I was thinking the same.. Did you take her to the pedi & find out what it was?

  • I would go to the pedi. Like pp, dd just had hand foot and mouth. It started in her throat for us, but eventually she had little blisters on her feet and hands.

She also has a condition that is fairly rare that results in little red rashes across her chest. I forgot what it is called. Like you mentioned, the spots go away with heat. We treat it with a steroid creme.

  • Well, so this is awesome.  2 pedis and 3 derms have looked at it and basically do not know definitively what it is.  They started treating it as bacterial, and though there was mild improvement, it didn't appear to be "cured", so we are taking her in again today.

I am at my wit's end of "try this remedy and see how it goes".  I don't want to see how it goes, I want my little toddler to be feeling better!
