Babies: 6 - 9 Months

From rocking to crawling

Last week, DS started getting on all fours and doing some rocking before flattening out again. How long did it take your LO to go from all fours to actually crawling?

He sits like a champ, bears weight, and is a pro-roller, so no concerns at all...just curious. Although I have an older child, she has low muscle tone and so followed an unusual gross motor trajectory (but is now all caught up).

Thanks.

Re: From rocking to crawling

  • DS2 started getting up on all fours and rocking around 51/2 months, started scooting backwards at 6 months, and is now (at 6 1/2 months) using a combo of army crawling and crawling on all fours to go short distances. So, about 4 weeks.

This exactly for us. A cold and teething slowed her a little but she's cruising now

  • It took a while for us.  At least a month.  She was pulling herself up to stand before she was actually crawling.  Seemed like it was never going to happen, then boom, one day she was flying across the floor so fast!

  • It was about a month for us too...
  • DS is 7 1/2 months - just figured out a few days ago he can get up on all fours. Now he is doing it constantly and rocking like crazy! :) He has always preferred to be standing or in his walker/bouncer. He mastered the art of rolling across the room to get the dog a month ago. :)

  • We hit the up to all 4's at 5 months, two weeks to start rocking, two weeks to do that for a prolonged period of time, two weeks to get really good at tummy-sitting transition, and then finally took off across the room last week at almost seven months. And he took off across the room to get to his crib where he promptly pulled up to stand  :-O
