Maternity Clothes?

I recognize it sounds ridiculously early for me to be asking this since I'm only 8 weeks today, but when did those of you with twins switch to maternity pants?  I was doing injectibles for IVF before this so was already bloated and am finding my pants for work uncomfortable.  I actually bought two pairs in a size bigger just so I don't have to worry about the waistband digging in while I sit at my desk.  I'm not ready to tell everyone at work so don't want to switch ti maternity clothes but am curious how long I can hold out.  Thanks!

Re: Maternity Clothes?

  • I didn't need maternity pants until about 14-15 weeks.  I didn't switch to maternity shirts until after 20 weeks.

  • I wore them from day one. We did IVF as well and unfortunately I developed OHSS. Gained 25 pounds of fluid in one week! After it went away, I decided to just stay in them because they're comfortable and I had bloat.
TTC since May 2010. DX Unexplained IF. IUI #1 in August 2012. Clomid, Menopur plus Ovidrel. BFN. IUI #2 in September 2012. Clomid, Menopur plus Ovidrel. BFN. IUI #3 in October 2012. BFN. IVF in April/May 2013. BFP with b/g twins! Due February 2, 2014. Thank you God!
  • I switched over to maternity pants around 18-19 weeks.  It was literally overnight between not needing them and needing them. Depending on the shirt or dress, I still wear a mix of non-maternity and maternity.  The bra is key.  I have some nursing but I bought a bunch of bigger ones at Target and they help a ton.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!
  • I switched very early. I started off with sweatpants mostly. Put on a pair of maternity pants and never went back!

  • I officially switched around 15-16 weeks. But since it was summer I was wearing cotton long dresses which were super comfy!

  • I started wearing them around 9 weeks. I could have done one of those elastic bands (Bella band? beband? I forget), but I said screw it and went for the comfier option. Initially I just folded the panel down until I felt like I needed it over my belly.

  • I switched around 12 weeks due to being bloated from meds as well. Switch when you need to! It will make all the difference in the world :)

I did the same as you - I was busting out of my pants at 5 weeks and using the rubber band trick, but it was super uncomfortable at work. I switched to maternity pants at 10 weeks. But warning - buy larger maternity pants than you need!! I am a pre pregnancy size 4/6 5'4" 135 lbs, and while I have gained on track (about a pound a week, I am up 25 lbs), I have already outgrown the size small "second trimester" style maternity pants. I just recently went ahead and bought larges knowing where this is going. My job requires suits so I couldn't get away with flowy dresses. (oh and I wasn't even on meds - its just pregnancy on crack).

  • I was in maternity jeans and yoga pants right away because I was so miserably nauseated that any pressure on my abdomen made me hurl.

  • I did IVF and was bloated at 8 weeks. I bought a few pants that were a size or two up in the waist. I actually was smaller at 11 weeks when my bump started. I went with comfort and switched to maternity bottoms whenever I needed. Some bottoms are less obvious than others. Also, I used a lot of my looser existing wardrobe - sweater dresses, etc.

  • I had to wear the bellaband thing with my jeans starting at about 10 weeks, because they were tighter without much give.  My work pants were lower rise and looser and didn't dig into my belly, so I was able to wear those until I transitioned to full-time maternity pants at 15-16 weeks (they looked kind of silly on me before that because I just didn't fill them out enough).

  • I started off with the belly band at 12 weeks. Eventually I had no way around getting into regular pants so went into maternity pants at 15-16 weeks!

  • Due to bloating and severe nausea which gets worse (or starts if I have it under control) I'm currently making due with my husbands pants and his belts.  My clothes just aren't an option in any way shape or form :(  Drives me a bit batty that I am so oversensitive while I am pregnant, but I was the same with the singletons. :)   Soo.. I already ordered some pregnancy clothes off of a Zulilly sale, but they won't be shipped until the 8th of October!  ~pouts~  Good luck!  Don't feel bad for switching early if you need to.  With a loose blouse / tunic, you can't tell the difference between maternity pants and regular ones if they are made somewhat well.

  • I haven't officially switched yet, but I've had my pants unbuttoned since appx 10w and started unzipping and using the belly band from 13w or so.  I'm 17w now and still avoiding maternity pants - I've tried a few on and haven't liked any of them

  • Starting around 13 weeks, the Bellaband became MUCH more comfortable than my normal pants. I can still fit into some of my pants with higher waists, though, so I'm wearing those normally at almost 14 weeks. Every once in awhile I wear a pair of maternity leggings, too. I'm pretty sure that in another 2-3 weeks, the maternity pants will probably come out full force!

  • I bought my first pair of mat jeans at 8 weeks. I was so uncomfortable in my regular jeans and didn't like the Bella bands. I did have to buy bigger sizes later on though! The jeans look like regular jeans so no one would know if you wear longer tops.
