Shortening cervix from 15w - 17w

My cervix was at 3-ish at 15w and today (17w) it has gone to 2.3.

They are sending me to a perinatologist on Thursday.

I'm happy they are following it so closely, but very scared since it's so early.  I don't know how I'm going to keep 2 babies in ... I know it's possible, and has been done. I'm just worried :( Hopefully I will get more answers on Thursday.

Re: Shortening cervix from 15w - 17w

  • Stay off your feet as much as possible. Thoughts and prayers your way to keep those babies in! They may put a stitch in to keep your cervix closed I had it with my first as mine has done the same both pregnancies but here I am 27 weeks as of this Wednesday and it's holding steady. I have another check today but so far all is well and keeping them cooking. Stress can make it worse. But just take it easy best you can and I found if I laid back feet higher than my head it actually helped make it a tad longer. Glad your doctors are keeping close watch. Keep us updated!!

  • Oh and my measurements were same as yours at those weeks if that helps any and 10 weeks later I'm still ok hopefully the check today says the same but it is scary. I know the feeling all to well. Praying for you!

  • It's very scary but hopefully you are still early enough where they can do a cerclage.  Drink plenty of water and give your body rest.  In reality, it is something you cannot control but with monitoring, I know many people on this board have had success stories.

I am a little bit further along than you (26 weeks) but from 23.5 weeks to 25 weeks my cervix shortened from 3.1 to 2.36.  Today it was at 2.2 so my doctor has not done any intervention yet.  If I hit 2, she will put me on progesterone.  If/when I hit 1, I will be admitted to the hospital.  Hopefully, yours will stabilize!

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013

  • @mellissalynay90 - Did you get the cerclage?  I know there isn't much data to back up it being successful for multiples, but sometimes Drs do it anyway.   Good luck at your check today!

  • I had it with my singleton but not the twins. the doctor missed the window to do it because I was fine and then like literally over night I dilated to a 1 so I was put on bed rest and mag sulfate to stop even Braxton hicks from doing any changes. It helped and so far my cervix has held steady between the 1.6 and 2.0 range. Even with baby A at a -1 station. But with my singleton it was a slow change so he had time to do the stitch. As long as there is no dilation they can do it. (It's not a bad procedure it's quick) and it does help with singletons and multiples :)

  • I was put on modified bed rest at 15 weeks and strict bed rest at 17 weeks because I was in the 2 range. At 21 weeks I went into the hospital because I was dilated to a 1. I delivered at 25 weeks after a month in the hospital. My high risk Dr did not do a cerclage as he does not believe they work or help. Having your cervix start to shorten really early is very scary and I wish you all the best! Have your husband do all of the chores so you can take it easy and rest.
