How's it going with trying spoons and forks so far?

I put SS because he pretty much sucks at getting any sort of food onto his spoon, and then keeping it there from plate to mouth is practically an impossibility.

And with a fork, he knows what to do, but often doesn't poke the food hard enough to get it to stick on the fork so I have to help guide his hand a little. He easily uses a fork if I am there to poke his food with it though.

So getting the hang of a fork, but definitely not great with it, and pretty hopeless with the spoon.

@MrsKBerlo Don't feel bad! We all have our different places where we're at and none of it is wrong. :)

  • I voted SS because DD can't really use a spoon but she can sometimes use a fork though all in all she prefers just eating with her hands and slamming the utensil on her tray.

  • Wow, the results are really wide ranging, it's fun to see where we're all at. :)

  • DS's fine motor skills are not nearly good enough for utensils yet. If I put yogurt on a spoon and hand him the spoon, he'll put it in his mouth successfully, but he couldn't scoop it himself yet.

  • I feel like the last week has been a turning point for us. She has done really well if you hand her a loaded spoon for months but now she will scoop up food onto the spoon by herself. Just gave her a fork this week and she's doing pretty well, she thinks it's a fun new game, it's pretty cute. Still using her hands a lot when she is tired if using the utensils though!

  • This last week it seems like she had a breakthrough with the spoon, and I think it's because she switched which hand she's using. She changed to her left hand and all of a sudden it started working. She'll hold the fork mostly until the end when she's full and just practicing stabbing things.
