Breast pump

I am online looking at breast pumps and I see there are single and double pumps. I don't know which one to get. I will be going back to work (4 to 6 weeks) after my son is born. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise?

Ditto over here! I have no idea which type to get.... Pre-preggo I had very large boobs and now they are getting even bigger! I hear some brands are better than others for ladies with large tata's!! Any suggestions on which ones work the best?

  • Ditto the double electric.  I have a Medela Pump In Style and it worked great for DS.
  • Agree with the above. FTM but i got the medela double! especially if you're going back to work!

  • Definitely a double electric.  If you can afford Medela or Ameda I recommend those brands first.  Call your insurance and see what's covered under the new healthcare laws for your plan.

It has nothing to do with the brand vs your breast size. What matters is that the horns you're using to pump fit your nipples and most brands offer varying sizes of horns. If you have concerns that the horns that come with your pump are too small, talk to an LC and get some bigger ones.

  • I am getting a Medela double electric through my insurance company at no cost to me. All of my friends and family suggested a double electric since I had no clue being a FTM. Definitely check with your insurance company before purchasing something on your own as PP stated.
  • Definitely a double electric! Medela or ameda are the most trusted, popular brands. I had the ameda purely yours, worked great. I'd buy the travel bag with little ice cooler if you'll be using it at work.
  • Uh oh, I got a single madela one at my shower. Am I going to hate it? Should I bite the billet and go get a double one and pay the difference?

Depends on how much you will be pumping. If you will be a working mom, then yes, I would get the double.

  • Thanks ladies!
  • Thank you all for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. Everyone have a great day.
  • My insurance only covers manual pumps. Stinks! Useless for me, so I will have to buy the electric.  Any opinions on Medela Pump in Style vs. Medela Freestyle?
