So I posted last week about having an infected pimple. I went in to my dermatologist to have it looked at. She drained it, and sent cultures out to be tested, as there was some concern as to whether it was MRSA or just a run of the mill staph infection.

Well WTF. She just called and said it came back positive for MRSA. Now both I and MH have to scrub daily with antimicrobial wash, swab our nostrils 3x a day with Bactroban, and I have to take 2 weeks worth of doxycycline. And we have to hope to God our almost 9 month old son doesn't get it. I kind of want to cry. My PMS isn't helping matters either.

Anyone dealt with this? Any tips?

Seriously, how do you even get MRSA? I thought that was something old people and immuno-compromised people got. FIL got it on his foot. That is some scarey shity. You have all my sorries.

Damn adult pimples.

@acaudill75 that's what I thought too. I asked the dr "how the hell did I even end up with this?" I'm a SAHM for God's sake. I pretty much go to dr's offices now and then, grocery store, a playground here and there, and home, lol. Its not like I work in a hospital where I'm exposed to it all the time..at least this was my train of thought.

She said its actually really common. About 10% of the population are carriers of MRSA, but ddon't know it bc they haven't gotten an infection from it. That was surprising. I still feel gross though. Ick.

If so, I wonder if they are related as well. Hopefully this all clears up soon!

Yep that was me! The dr and I talked about thay as well. Turns out they were all connected. If it hadnt been for this nasty infected pimple that randomly appeared, I wouldn't have known. How weird.

Hopefully the antibiotics will do their job and we won't have to deal with this shit again..ugh.

All of this seems so strange to me though, bc I'm so anal aboit hand washing! Apparently I wasn't anal about it enough. Or its just shitty luck I guess.

That really stinks. You have all of my sorries. DD2 had MRSA as a toddler, and we were able to clear it up quickly with one round of antibiotics. I hope that you have the same results. Good luck!

@mbenit4 your poor DD! That sounds awful...I'm sure it was scary having her be hospitalized for it. Ive been crazy with the hand washing and antibacterial gel lately. I'm hoping to God DS doesn't get it!

@s0ulchicken glad to hear your DD's case cleared up quickly. I'm hoping this will be the first and last time we have to deal with it.

Get plenty of rest. Your immune system is going to be your best friend in fighting this. I say you make your husband do the heavy cleaning.

And these antibiotics suck!!! What's the point of taking antibiotics if they make you feel even worse??? Fuck all this noise

Yeah, the abcess itself has definitely improved since they drained it (yuck, I know). The dr also put me on Bactroban nasal swab 3x/day for 2 weeks as well as doxycycline twice/day for 2 weeks. Mh has to do the bactroban too. Ugh. Talk about antibiotic overload. I'm also taking a probiotic to help with the side effects of being on all the antibiotics. Hopefully this will take care of it.

@MrsT0514 - Remember how we commiserated about our stupid symptoms a couple weeks ago? Well damn it if I didnt also have a pimple like bump show up on my stomach a little while ago. When I read this post I made a doctor appointment ASAP - and I also have an infection. My doctor didnt drain the abcess, so she said she couldnt say if it was MSRA, but she did say it seemed like I had a staph infection. So she put me on antibiotics as well as giving me a topical ointment for my nose. This is the first day in, but my nose is already getting better - havent seen much change on my stomach, but I will give it a few days. So thanks for sharing, it got me to go see the doctor!
