High-Risk Pregnancy

Almost 6 weeks and Petrified!

So I am quite early, 6 weeks on Tuesday, but I have SLE (Lupus), APS, and Lupus anticoagulant so I am pretty much paranoid every day since I found out 1.5 weeks ago. I have never has a miscarriage or a blood clot. I just know I have the positive blood tests and I have had no spotting or sharp pains, just what I have read is normal minimal cramping sensation in different areas indicating stretching and feeling of fullness and bloating along with a million other symptoms. I have my first Ob-Gyn appt tomorrow for basic blood tests and then I see a perinatologist wednesday I assume to take a u/s to make sure everything is progressing as it should. But I am really just so scared every day and I know I have to be wary all the way up through the end! I have been on baby aspirin since before I conceived, and a multi with folate for 6 months before I conceived, and omega 3's (1 g) and lots of greens (I eat very well) and my plaquinel that my doc says is fine to stay on and can even help with APS. But I just have a hard time being excited because I feel like I have to prepare myself for the worst knowing I have a lot of odds stacked against me and so far my rhumetologist (lupus doc) has said I can't go on any other meds for it this time since I have never had an incident before which is frustrating. It is nice to find this community and hoping for a healthy pregnancy and some good news this week!

  • Congrats on your pregnancy. I don't have any advice with your medical condition but I having a high risk pregnancy is nerve recking. I think as long as you have a great team of drs by your side you should be just fine. I must admit tho the nerves never settle but please try to enjoy this moment as much as you can :-)

Welcome to this board. The ladies here are amazing and very surportve :)

  • Congrats and welcome.  I'm not super active here since I can't help with many of the questions, but first tri is a very hectic time and worrisome time.  I've had two losses so I'm a ball of nerves along with being high risk....but my very first pregnancy, with no previous losses I was still scared to death from the second I got my positive.  You're definitely not alone on that.  Like PP said, try to enjoy it some though....you'll get good days where you're not as worried, so enjoy them :)

  • Welcome and Congratulations! While I don't know much about your medical condition, I can certainly understand the nervous, stressed, afraidness of being high risk. I am about 10 weeks into my second pregnancy and already a ball of nerves with this one as well. Try to think positive and do something that helps you relax even a little, like taking walk, bath, listening to soothing music or reading. I know its hard and scary, but just try to take it one day at a time, that is what I do and need to remind myself to do as well.

I also have SLE and the anticardiolipin antibody. Mine was discovered after the birth of my first child. We're currently trying and I know I'll be ball of nerves when I get pregnant again. My OB is comfortable with aspirin as my only blood thinner since I've yet to have a clotting event, but my hematologist would rather be safe than sorry so as soon as I get pregnant I'll be on lovenox injections.

  • Thanks everyone! So met with the perinatologist and he said that because I don't have the actual APS syndrome I am not at increased risk for miscarriage. However, with the lupus anticoagulant that really applies to if I have to have surgery (c-section) I would have to be on blood thinners but said the baby aspirin was fine. And I have extra precautions like I will have to see someone weekly by 32 weeks and because women with Lupus has an increased risk for still birth I am likely to be induced at 39 weeks (not a fan of that, but want the best for peanut). I haven't gotten an u/s yet and am due for next appt at 10 weeks (in a month!) so will ask for one then. My main concern right now is worry over the small percentage risk of things like getting to the u/s and seeing an empty gestational sac (thank you internet trolling) or something is wrong...just trying to take it day by day.
