C-sections due to colon issues

Hi- is there anyone who resorted to c-section due to a history of colon issues like fissures or fistula? I have a history of fissures and that has created a very complex fistula. I don't think I have crohns ( never officially diagnosed) but am in conversations with both a colon surgeon and a MFM to figure out best options for delivery. My colon surgeon thinks I could attempt vaginal birth and suggests they do a lateral episiotomy to avoid tearing the wrong way. I'm not sure how I feel. I think if I already have a troubled colon history I need to just keep it safe and do a c-section. But then again it's not as simple to convince my OB about it who wants to wait until third trimester to figure things out. I know both gave pros and cons and I just want to weigh out the least risk baring option.

Is there anyone here who has had a similar experience and can share how you made the choice?

Re: C-sections due to colon issues

  • I have Crohn's and I was going to go natural. Then I started reading and got scared. I was afraid of a hormone dump after delivery and going into a flare. Having a tear and my lady bits torn to shreds and having a flare seemed like a fate worse than death. I have had a resection before and knew what expect from that. So after talking to my OB and my GI I had a scheduled c-section. And it was the best decision I think I have ever made. It is a personal decision and everyone is different. So good luck!
