I've eaten cold subs a few times and not worried a bit about it. My go-to at Subway is a turkey and pepperjack toasted sub and has been for ages but I wouldn't hesitate getting a cold sub there if I wanted one. I think any trusted deli would be fine for sandwiches.

I didn't read all the posts but my dr said that if it is being cut right in front of you then it is fine. It's when it sits in the fridge that's no good. Must be very fresh.
I think fresh deli meat from a busy shop is fine. I've had a few sandwiches this pregnancy and they were wonderful.
As others have said, melon, bagged lettuce, deli salads, and even soft serve ice cream cause more cases of Listeria.
That said, it doesn't make sense to say "I've never gotten sick from this before so I'm sure it's ok now" because you are most likely to catch Listeria when you are pregnant because of your weakened immune system. Listeria can also effect your baby without you even knowing you are sick. Just know the facts before you decide what "rules" you are comfortable breaking.
Actually, my doctors aren't idiots. They're telling me to take precautions, which I listen to because after losing a baby, a stupid sandwich isn't worth it. I think it is pretty selfish to be honest to just pick and choose the rules you want to follow for yourself, without thinking of what could happen to your baby.
No one said martyr. I sure as hell didn't. But if you ask your doctor something like what to avoid, and you ignore the advice, why bother going to the doctor if you obviously believe you know better. You know, since you're ignoring advice of the professionals.
My friend got super sick from lunch meat a few years ago. It does happen. For me, it's really not a big deal to heat up the meat ::shrugs:: I would never take that risk.
I had craving for a sandwich too so I went to the deli and ask then which one had no preservatives and were all natural usually ur grocery store has some like if they have boars head they have a couple that are all natural no preservatives but if you get you have to eat it right away because is so natural it goes bad quickly! I hope that helps
@1983sas Some people ask because their doctor said nothing about it, yet, the internet and birth boards say otherwise. So,I highly doubt we have a BMB full of people smoking, drinking alcohol, 15 cups of coffee a day, downing ibuprofen like its tic taccs, etc. You don't need to be rude, some of these things are borderline issues. If you're staying away, great! Your pregnancy, your choice. My midwife's food rules are a million times removed from what your doc said, i can assure you of that. Being overly judgemental is just not necessary in this case.
I realize there are statistics to support listeria, but honestly, I think food lists are cultural. Women eat sushi in japan during their whole pregnancy. It's considered healthy. I'm in Germany, and this country runs on cold cuts. They literally eat them for breakfast, lunch & dinner. If I stopped eating them entirely I'd seriously have a hard time. Women in europe also engage in a few sips of wine every now & then too. I think these food lists are cultural. If it makes you nervous, don't do it. If the lunch meat seems questionable, or has been in your fridge for awhile don't eat it. Just use your intuition, and trust your body. Good luck everyone!
