A Little Late...

Hey everyone!

I am a little late posting my into, but I have been enjoying just jumping in and reading everyone's posts!  My name is Tiffany (nickname Tippy) and I am 26, and have been married for a little over a year!  This is our first child and I am happy to say that this pregnancy is going well so far!  We had to terminate at 5 weeks in May (day before Mother's Day) due to a possible ectopic, so we are super stoked about the baby and can't wait to meet her (yes, I'm hoping).

I work at Cook-Out full time (got job the 6th, same day we found out I was pregnant) and will hopefully be trained as manager in the next 2 months.  I will be 6w on Tuesday, and we have already been to the OB for bloodwork and orientation.  We see the OB for an ultrasound on October 1.  We are thankful for a sticky baby because I am in cancer remission year 2 (Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 2), hypothyroidism (due to the cancer), and overweight (5'5" 260+).

I hope to get to know you ladies more as we all traverse through this adventure together!  I love to chat, so feel free to hit me up!

Re: A Little Late...

  • Welcome.  T/Ps for a sticky baby.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was little confused.  What do you mean you had to terminate due to a possible ectopic?  Isn't that something they confirm first?

  • They couldn't find the baby/sac.  My betas at 5w were only rising minimally, staying under 100.  The ultrasounds (outside and vaginal) showed no sac to be found, I had serious pain on my left side, and had minor spotting/bleeding.  They advised to terminate, so DH and I made an informed decision to terminate.

It sucked...I still deal with "What would have happened if we would have waited" and "would the numbers have gone up?"

  • But how did you terminate?  Did you take an oral medication or did you have surgery, because a ectopic would require surgery and they for sure would have been able to tell you if it was ectopic.  I think you need to call the OB you were working with at the time and get the straight facts, maybe you'll be able to stop wondering.  Good luck with this pregnancy!

  • I had a Methotrexiate (sp?) shot and it was a painful process.  It kills the cells and causes a natural miscarriage.  I had tissue pass, but not huge.  When I talked to the Dr. afterward to follow-up, and I asked him "what is the possibility of the numbers going up and this becoming a normal pregnancy?" he said "I guess we'll never know, you made your choice."  Needless to say I was outraged and upset and went into a post-partum type depression (on top of my normal depression).  I just NOW got a job since May, and I have informed the office that I do NOT want to see him AGAIN. There are still things that I don't understand, but the information they gave us was all they could give us.

  • Huh.  That is confusing.  My understanding with that drug is that you would have needed a series of follow up blood work to determine if the pregnancy had indeed safely ended.  Because if your numbers were still going up, you would have needed additional shots.  If your doctor didn't do any of the follow up care, I'd sue.

Sounds like you made a very good decision to change doctors.

  • We did follow-up bloodwork to track my HCG.  The highest it got was 86 and it safely went down to 0.  Thanks for your concern.  I wish I had gotten on here when it was all happening so that I might have not dove into my own darkness for so long.

Holy wow! Well, in any case I'm glad you're here now. I really don't think many doctors should be in practice. It's disgusting how some of them conduct themselves. I'm so sorry that you had that experience! FX for the best this time.

  • My DH's familiy has a history of nurses, and they LOVE him!  He is straightforward and knowledgable, but his bedside manner is lacking.  The place i go to is a Women's Health at the hospital and they had me in their rotation.  I chose a specific OB this time, and I heard that she is a first time mom and very professional.  I meet her the 1st when we get our first u/s!  We are past the scary point, so we are trying to stay positive about the OB office!
