Constant fear of delivering early...

I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow. The girls are growing great. My BP has been in the 130/75 rage when I go to the Dr. and then it goes down after my appt. (they take it twice). I was put on modified bedrest a week and a half ago due to my blood pressure and because I had put on 12 pounds in a month. I was told to do a low carb/high protein diet and at my follow up appointment I had lost 8 pounds. I also passed my GD test. My cervix has also stayed in the 4 range.

I just have this fear every time I get up that my water is going to break. Since that is pretty much the only thing I can't help. I'm even afraid to poo because I'm afraid to push too hard.

I know every MoMs has this fear, but if you did deliver early, did you have any warning? Contractions, protein in urine, shortened cervix?

Thanks!

  • I had zero warning until the contractions started. They felt just like my normal BH but were more often and timeable. It sounds like you're doing everything right.

  • I agree with pp. I had a great pregnancy overall but always feared delivering early. I was put on activity restriction and off of work at 32 weeks due to the af levels being low for my boy. I was thankful because I was so uncomfortable from swelling. I ended up delivering at 37weeks 3days, just 2 days shy of my planned c-section, due to signs of pre eclampsia. My twins were and still are healthy as can be and needed no NICU time! All you can do is take care of yourself and try to enjoy your pregnancy. Rest, keep your feet up, drink lots of water and let people take care of you. :)
  • I am almost 33 weeks along and have been on hospital bed rest since 24 weeks with a shortened cervix and contractions. My contractions are BH and not impacting my cervical length or the babies. I am going home this week since I have gotten far enough along and need to build up my strength at home before delivery.

Are you taking Colace? I found that really eases my peace of mind. It helps to have one less thing to worry about.

Your cervix sounds great. Your GD test was good along with your diet. It's hard but give thanks for every day and remind yourself that you have regular medical care. Concentrate on smaller milestones - 28 weeks, 30 weeks, 32 weeks, 34, 35, 37... It will help you celebrate your accomplishments.

    Good luck.
