An Actual Parenting Question

So, Cade's decided that Tylenol and Ibuprofen are both the devils juice. He now acts like we're pouring acid in his mouth whenever we give him his pain meds. We still have another day or two of doing the every 3 hours thing. Any suggestions on how to do this without Cade freaking out? He used to love it. Now he hates it.

Re: An Actual Parenting Question

  • We do use a syringe and have been holding him down. He thrashes around, cries, and pushes it out of his mouth. It's turned into the most difficult task ever. Also, I have given pets medicine, but it's a pill and I usually just hide that in a piece of cheese.

Put it in a bottle? Would he chew it in tablet form?

They have Tylenol suppositories. I would use those until his mouth heals.

ETA I'm not sure if they have them in infant doses but you could call the pharmacist and check!

Eta2: they do have 80mg suppositories for infants!

  • We sometimes put medicine in a nipple. It usually works.

  • We've done the nipple thing and that worked well, and I second putting it way back toward his cheek where it's harder to force it out. Giving medicine pretty much sucks though.
