Lice

Yep. We've got it. This is the nastiest feeling ever. I know it has nothing to do with our homes cleanliness or our own personal hygiene (even though I swear we are very clean people) but I feel like a dirt ball.
We found it on C last night and we did a quick otc treatment on her so she can at least go to bed with semi clean hair. We are having people come over today to de-lice me and C and triple check that O doesn't have it. DH shaved his head so he's ok.
I was so disgusted last night that I had DH cut my hair before he did the combing treatment on me. Yup. It's 8 inches shorter and crooked. Sweet. IDGAF cause it'll grow back.

I literally grabbed trash bags and put every single stuffed animal/doll in them and chucked them outside to be washed today. I stripped everything off the beds and have now a million loads of laundry to do. I'll be washing the couch cushions as well.
I know I'm being extreme since lice need hair/scalp to live and they only live 24-48 hours but still the idea of dead bugs all over my house just grosses me out to no end. I just puked a bit in my mouth.

Now I have to go and polish my scarlet "L".

Oh blast it all! I know how you feel. It's not your fault but it's so violating! Tea tree oil. When my students got it, that was what I always did. Also, tie your hair into the tightest bun you can...if it's still long enough. Plaster it to your head with hairspray and then dab tea tree oil all over. They can't stand the smell. Neither can I but at least it's better than lice. Also, hairspray makes it impossible for them to grip your hair. Once C is clear, do the same to her until you're certain they are out of your house. My mom also rinsed our hair with vinegar. It's supposed to repel them as well.

I am all itchy just thinking about it and I know you can't give to me since you're on the other side of the country!

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • So sorry! I had it a couple times growing up. No fun. Hopefully you guys will be debugged in no time.
Side note. S made a picture last night for C. I'll try to get it in the mail soon!

  • How awful! Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.
  • Oh no!!! Poor C. I think blue dawn works, too. Good luck. If I can get rid of fleas in five days, you can get rid of lice in a few days. It's so good that you're being extra cautious washing everything. The lice might be able to die quickly but the eggs will still fall off onto the couch, etc. You're doing everything right!

  • Yuck!  I have heard getting rid of lice is a horrible process.  Good luck.

  • That is not extreme... that is necessary! Lice is so hard to get rid of but if you do it right the first time, they should die. Our preschool got it BAD last year. I second the tea tree oil and putting yours and dd's hair up in tight buns. When I was young and had it my mom couldn't get rid of it. After 3 months, she put vasoline in my hair. It killed them all but my I had to wash my hair at least twice a day with dawn grease fighting dish soap. So if it gets bad, you can always do that too.
