Pregnant after IF

Low Prog and LPD

Hi Ladies! I'm from the 3T board - just made our initial appointment with an RE on 10/3. I did some preliminary testing with my OBGYN, and it turns out I have low progesterone and a luteal phase defect. I was wondering how many of you had these same two issues and were able to get pregnant? Was it an easy fix? I know for low progesterone, you can take supplements and/or suppositories. How do they treat a LPD? I was looking into doing acupuncture to reduce my stress levels, as well as, possibly lengthening my LPD.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble, but good for you for seeing the RE and getting these clear DX. I don't have either if the same DX, but I wanted to encourage you to try acupuncture since you mentioned it. It really gave my body the boost it needed through our FET cycle. I'm sure the other gals will have some clearer advice for you, but I would absolutely give acupuncture a try. Good luck!

I had a short lp in combination with dor. My original RE thought that the problem would fix itself with a stronger O...whatever that means. I asked to be supplemented regardless and was on progesterone suppositories with number 1. With this one, I was on a bunch of supplements (but not doing art) when I got pregnant so not on progesterone. I had it tested at 13 dpo and it was normal this time so have not supplemented. You can also try B6. Start outwith 50 and see Iif it helps and move up to 100 the next month if it doesn't.

I had a short LP as I ovulated on days 19 or 20 of a day 28 cycle. I started acupuncture, and I really believe it helped me. I went from a late ovulation/short LP to ovulating on day 13-14 and having a normal LP. I do have to say, though, that acupuncture wasn't a quick fix -- I was doing it for almost 9 months before I saw any changes to my cycle. But, that wasn't the only thing that I had going on, either.
I didn't get pregnant on my own with just progesterone supplementation. During the time I was doing acupuncture, RE said we could try natural cycles with adding progesterone to lengthen my LP, but my period would still start without fail on day 28. She informed me that progesterone supplementation won't get me pregnant, but could help maintain a pregnancy if I did get pregnant on my own. I did that about 7 cycles, but it didn't work. Eventually I moved on to medicated IUIs, and my 2nd one worked. I'm still on progesterone since my RE routinely prescribes it for these cycles.
Good luck with your RE! And if anything, acupuncture can really help with all the stress that comes from dealing with IF. It definitely helped me in that way!

My RE said neither of those things matter because any treatment involves supplementing progesterone.

Thank you Ladies for your kind words and advice. :) I am going to get some B6 and look into an acupuncturist in our area. Can't wait for 10/3 to get here so we can finally be on our way with an RE. Good luck and best wishes for all of you :)

I've had progesterone supplementation during this and my previous cycle so I haven't worried about it recently. But, even though it was never tested, I always suspected I had low progesterone for various reasons, and took a B-complex vitamin (the one with 50 mg, not 3 or 4) to try to help it on my own.

I don't have either diagnose, but I too wanted to encourage acupuncture.  I know it really helped my stress levels while going through IVF cycles.  Good luck!
