Holiday questions

So I know it isn't even October yet-but with Hanukkah technically falling before Thanksgiving this year--I am really starting to think of ideas.

How do you narrow down gift ideas? Like seriously narrow it down. 

There are two things Reese has been wanting since June--she still asks about them weekly/biweekly.

Both of them are around 35-40, depending on where it is cheaper.

I would like to get her the Loving family dollhouse or a wooden block set for the "bigger gift"---she would absolutely LOVE both of them, so it is more which one to get. Also I want to get her the regular leap reader. She has the tag junior and does enjoy it but the books are too boring/easy for her. 

I obviously don't want to spend 40 dollars a night on a gift, which means to narrow it down. 

But I have no clue HOW to even narrow it down....I need help.

How do you decide what your kids will get?

Sometimes I go for wow factor and other times longevity. Or I buy it all;)

I do tend to leans toward the gift that will get the most use though. It really depends on your child. The Monsters play sets are pretty cool. I like the Imaginext line. DS2 has their Batman play sets. It's easy to add on different character sets and play all together. He'll probably get the Monsters one for Christmas and have Sully put Joker in jail.

That is the thing though ALL of those toys have longevity purposes in our house. My daughter loves playsets and scene type things---we have plastic figures scattered through the house--right now they are in DH's childhood Castle Greyskull. She likes the little people playsets--but puts her other figures in them. 

So they all will have a wow factor plus longevity.

Search for deals and buy it all? lol  I'd definitely get a nice block set. It's very versatile. Both of my boys still use them to make raceways in the kitchen, mazes, knockdown games etc.

I would love the three things--but we do 8 nights, 8 gifts. 

Some of them will be small: a book, melissa and doug lacing cards, pattern blocks, maybe a figurine. 

I am hoping my parents ask like they did last year--and I can pawn off the block set on them. My mom being a former teacher is HUGE on creative play/building/classic toys. 

The worst is that if I can't keep to 8 gifts---we do Christmas in our house too. So the overflow gets sets aside for that. The nice thing is they are just about a month apart this year--so not overwhelming.

Well, his birthday is 5 weeks after Christmas, so whatever he doesn't get for Christmas, he gets for his birthday.

ETA: Also, he has two sets of grandparents that dote on him, plus aunts, uncles, and great grandparents. So I can usually pawn something off on them if I already reached my own gift limit. I actually normally have trouble coming up with enough gift ideas.
