Recovery after delivery

I am 4 weeks post partum today and I still have stinging about 60% of the time I go to the bathroom. I did have stitches, how many, I am not sure? The midwife said I had a second degree tear, but I'm not convinced. I feel like maybe it was a little worse than that? But who knows. I'm still having to use my peri bottle and I occasionally will still have red blood. Not a lot to soak a pad, but it's still red. Sometimes dark red. It hasn't transitioned into the dark discharge. Does anyone have any clues to why I could still be having the stinging and mild bleeding? Maybe it's just taking me longer to heal?

Re: Recovery after delivery

  • I am just about 6 weeks postpartum and still have this. I had a third degree tear (almost 4th). Pain isn't so bad anymore, just stings a little sometimes. Still bleeding, but not through pads like you said. I have an appointment coming up, but i'm thinking it's all normal.

I checked with a mirror and my stitches are gone. Just have little dots where it looks like the stitches when in and out of my skin. Weird... maybe that's what stings.

  • Third degree tear hear; 3 weeks PP, and pretty deep. Still stings when I wipe, and I have to use my peri bottle as well, and also to make sure I'm keeping things clean down there. I can go a couple days with nothing on the pad, then have a little gush of red. I think it's pretty normal as long as it's not prolonged bleeding. I would def touch base with the OB to make sure though. Are you taking anything for pain? Ibuprofen can also make you bleed a little.

I am not taking anything for the pain. The first few days I was taking Aleve, but haven't taken anything since then. I think I'll call midwife next week and just ask. Although my 6 wk PP visit will be coming up here soon anyways. *sigh* the things about having a baby you really don't realize until you have your first. But it's still definitely worth it!! :)

  • This seems normal for 4 weeks PP.
