Wwyd?

Dd isn't sleeping. At all. Like honest to god she slept four hours last night and has been napping on average 20 minutes a day. I called the ents office and they pretty much told me to suck it up and keep giving her tylenol because they don't "like" giving kids stronger pain medicine. If she doesn't sleep again tonight I'm going to lose my fucking mind and she needs the sleep to get well. Would you call your pedi? Give her some Benadryl to try to get her sleep longer than two hours? Heed the advice of your ents office? I don't know wtf to do.

That sucks :-( I would call the pedi before I gave her any medication on my own.

Oh, I definitely would especially since I don't even know the dosage for her weight. I'm just not sure what to do.

Have you tried rotating Tylenol and Motrin? If the pain is keeping her awake that might help control it better. Other than that, call your pedi and get their opinion.

    Yep. :(

  • Ooooohhhhh man. I cannot imagine. Yipe. I would definitely call Ent back and stress the situation. It's cruel to keep a kiddo in pain. Otherwise, call pedi. I would for sure be on the horn with someone.

The weird thing is she's fine all day long. Obviously a lot less playful since she's exhausted but content, talking a lot and really not fussing in pain or anything. She just can't lie down. She napped in my arms sitting up yesterday but still didn't sleep. I was going to take her to the pedi this afternoon but my moms making me second guess myself since she's so happy when she sees her and that I should wait it out until Monday. Ugh.

  • Take her to the ped. For future reference you can double up a Motrin dose and it becomes prescription strength dose. Be careful about the Benadryl we had to give it to DD one time T 11 PM and we were all still up partying at 4 AM. It can have the opposite effect. Hope you guys get some rest soon.
  • Update--called the pedi and she was concerned the insomnia was seizure related and to call the neuro. Spoke to the nurse at the neuros office and she was stumped, said she would talk to the neuro and call me back. Le sigh.

Ugh. No real advice, but I'm sorry.

Will she nap in the car? Maybe if you drive around and she can sleep longer than 20 minutes she'll have a better night? I mean -- obviously there might be more major things at play given your situation, but just a thought.

Yes, she is a car napper. May do that tonight when dh gets home from work if between the pedi and neuro they don't prescribe her something to sleep. Thanks

  • That sounds like a waste of an excuse!

If your kid is in that much pain there is a reason pain medication exists.  I'm not one for over medicating my child, believe me.  But even I would be demanding something.  Call your pedi see what they say.

  • You said she did sleep when she was sitting up on you? Is there another way she can sleep upright? Or can the two of you crash together in a recliner? It won't be great for you, but if it helps her sleep and get better, it might be worth it.

She did sleep but only for about 20 minutes. Same amount she slept lying down. I would sleep upside down if it would get her to sleep right now. Lol

uh, no. you never double a dose. dose for motrin is 10 mg per kg. no more no less.

I was actually advised by my pedi to do that when ds had a high fever. I could double up the first dose but then had to give the regular dose the rest of the time.

  • Bendaryl knocks me out for at least 10 hours but I know a handful of people it has the opposite effect on. I'm sorry she's not sleeping KC. Hopefully these docs can get it together and get something for her. Poor thing.

  • Nobody would give her anything. :( the neuro said it was a reaction to anesthesia and I had to wait it out until Monday. Pedi won't prescribe her something due to her epilepsy. I seriously don't know how I'm going to survive three more nights of this. :((

I have been advised this by more than one doctor think I will believe them of an internet stranger.
  • I am so sorry. Can you just sleep in a recliner with her tonight and get some rest yourself?
