I adore the NN potential (Al, Alf, Alfie, Fred, Freddie). 

Would it make for a too pretentious sibset paired with DS Oscar? We are not a polo-playing family.

Alfred is my grandpa's name and we're considering it for this LO if it's a boy. The NNs are what sells it for me. Freddie is adorable, and so is Alfie. Great name! And I don't think it's too pretentious with Oscar. They're the same style; that's all.

Oh my.  I really dislike Alfred.  I put it with Mildred and Gertrude - old names that shouldn't come back.

I love Alfred!  I have named every catfish I've owned since my first fish tank Alfred.   And for me personally, I don't really love having two kids with the same first initial, so I prefer Alfred to your O boy names, even though I love boys names that start with O.
