  • I love that we're talking about this! And that everyone is being so supportive of each other's choices! This, right here, is the essence of post-third wave/fourth wave feminism ladies: whatever we chose is valid and awesome.

My husband and I do some things traditionally, and others not so much. It's more based on talent for us, though, not on tradition. For example, he's better at cleaning than I am and always has to bug me to do my share. I'm better at cooking, so that's mainly my job. He does the finances, not because I can't (I'm quite good at it, actually) but because he's an accountant and it's what he does all day anyway. He's the majority breadwinner, though that's more because of career choice than anything else.

In a lot of ways we're very gender opposite. He's more emotionally driven while I'm more logical. According to pop culture, we have reversed sex drives for our genders, even though in reality that's very common. We both like girly, feel good movies, and I play video games with him.

I probably won't stay home once the baby is here (the only way I'd want to do that is if the majority of my salary was going to day care), but he supports my right to choose either way. We do what works for us, and even though I often run our choices through a feminist lens (I am a flaming feminist and a sociologist) I feel very lucky to have married a man who isn't at all concerned with how things are 'supposed' to be done, but secure in who he is, and who we are together as a couple.

let the kid be a kid. He wants to wear a tutu let him wear it. why would you say it would give him cavities? People and their inability to just accept others as they are just irks me.

  • I'm a SAHM now and really enjoy it. When I first went back to work, when DS was 14 weeks old, I was miserable. DH actually took a 12 week paternity leave to help ease my sadness--for me, it was easier leaving for work knowing DS was home with his Dad. So DH was pretty much a SAHD for 12 weeks. He ended up getting an awesome new job while he was on leave which made it possible for me to go ahead and resign. It all happened really quickly.

Anyway, now we do fall into pretty traditional gender roles but it works for us. We weren't happy when I was the one working and DH was on leave. It just didn't make either of us particularly satisfied. I actually feel grateful that (1) I had the chance to go back to work and realize first-hand I would rather stay home and (2) let DH take a turn at being home for those weeks--he's very considerate of how tough staying home can sometimes be!

Since I got pregnant again I've really needed DH to be on toddler duty evenings and weekends because I am just feeling so sick, and he has been awesome! He does any nighttime wake-ups now too which is helping me get enough sleep. He is also an excellent cook but just doesn't have the time anymore. He spends his evenings with DS and I am happy to cook dinner while they play.

I do the cleaning and bill paying and would even if I still worked. I'm just a control freak about those things and am way better at (in my opinion!)

  • tutus are made of polysynthetic multifiber and processed cotton blends. germs are shipped in on them and breed there to make polio and the mumps. you could die of these if the tutu touches skin so always wear pants. polio has vaxine but unless you want autism so call the tutu home? i dont know?

:-t what?!? I've been in ballet for 17 years and have worn tutus with and without pants. And ps. EVERYTHING Is shipped with gross stuff on it from a factory, that's why you wash it!

What's the reason you're so passionate about tutus? Something traumatic happen? Serious question.

not the wash it because the germs will collect when you go out. a man with mumps sits on the chair and then the tutu sits on the chair and all the germs will live in the tutu and soon your child can catch polio in this way. if you want to keep safe wear pants to the dentist. when just a tutu where does the pee go? if pee on the seat then mumps man sits in pee and now both are sick. try to wear pants.
  • see there is a man who prolly has the mumps after the tutu girl but no pants. my baby has not the polio so must wear pants with the tutu.
  • I must have been sitting in the right seats for 17 years
17 and a baby is too young. or maybe you mean caught the mumps at 17 if so i believe it pants are important.
  • "Prolly" is not a word.

  • In a very similar situation. I'm teaching this year, but will definitely be a SAHM (at least for the first couple of years.) As much as I thought I'd never fall into the cliche gender roles, I totally have and don't mind one bit! Mainly because I'm very meticulous about cleaning and laundry and when DH helps, it doesn't meet my standards. I also would much rather take care of those chores than fix things, do yard work, or worry about finances.

@Rumparoo you know you're not supposed to do drugs while pregnant, right?
i only to said to be a meth head to get the husband of the girl to stop the argument. she does not want to breastfeed then say she has the drug problems and he will not make her do it if the baby will be a meth head too. they dont sleep enough when they are born they do not need to have of the meths.

  • Just to be devil's advocate, there are a lot if misconceptions in Africa about how one can catch or cure AIDS. If that's what she means by the mumps it may be valid. In America people still thought you could catch it from sitting on a toilet seat until the 2000's.

    That being said...MUD.

I hate to encourage it but this is making me crack up! I want to send it to my sister but she doesn't know I'm pregnant yet. It might be worth ruining the surprise!
