So I can't find this board on my mobile and rarely post but... OMG! I was approached by some guy claiming to be the truancy officer the other day at the store! Holy buckets, I was out with BOTH my kids and he told me that DD needed to be in school. When I said we were homeschooling he actually told me that I needed to be at HOME and SCHOOLING.
Sorry, jerk, I ran out of bread. I wonder if I can file a complaint. I was so stunned by the approach, I didn't really have a good comeback at the time. My kids are young so I never thought anyone would think otherwise. Do you have any good standby responses?

Re: Really?!
What a jerk. I have yet to have anyone threaten me for being out with my kids during the day, but we definitely get a lot of "why aren't you in school" comments from strangers.
Wowzas. I would have been pissed. And I didn't even realize there were still such things as "truancy officers". Really?!

I used to have to travel 150 miles round trip for counseling appointments with my kids.......I often was asked why they were not in school when I'd stop by the grocery store to pick up items not carried in my local small town stores. I usually just responded with dr appt. I actually had one clerk respond with a disappointed "I was hoping you were homeschoolers."
The other fun one was since they went to a different school district the days off didn't always coincide.
IMO, the better answer for the truancy officer asking why the child was not in school is "He is."
