I've had 2, 25 years ago. One with lidocaine and one without. The one WITH hurt more because they injected it into the skin where they were doing the draw. IT BURNS! The one without was just like getting a shot.
I didn't think it hurt at all. Mine was done at 36w6d to check lung development before a scheduled C/S for placenta previa. I was most worried about the needle so I brought a sleep mask and wore it to make sure I never saw the needle.
My DD was quite active and it took a little awhile to get the needed draw. Even so, it only took maybe 25 minutes total (10 with the actual needle).
I had one unexpectedly when they had to check me for an infection. It wasn't as bad as I thought-it's more mental stress bc you know there's a needle inside you! I just made my Dh sit next to me and talk to me the whole time so I was distracted.
You may have already had your amniocentesis, I just had one about three weeks ago. It really was not as bad as I expected. I thought it was more uncomfortable than anything. It did not last long at all and was over before I knew it. I hope all went well!
I had one a week ago. It really did not hurt at all for me. It just was like a weird sort of pressure and when the needle entered my uterus, there was a very slight cramp. It took probably less than a minute. I actually went back to work afterward.
