My LO spends a minimal amount of time in any sort of gadget. She might be in her swing or seat for 3-5 minutes at a time. I prefer to have her on the floor, free to move around. I put her in a seat or swing if I need to do something and I don't want to leave her.
My dd prefers her floor mat/gym. She spends most of the day on the floor with me playing with her. She loves to roll around and starting to try to scoot. We have a jumper, but she will only tolerate it for about 10 min, and sits in her bouncer or bumbo while we eat dinner.
We also do not put our girl in any gadgets. We have always let her move freely and she has spent lots of time on her back on the floor since she was brand new. We believe it helps her motor skills develop more naturally and she has always liked to be able to move her legs and arms a lot without any restriction. We would put toys close to her and since she was very small she would pick them up, play with them for a while, and put them down when she was done. She also loves to play with board books. Now she can get to a sitting position by herself and scoot around so she can get to toys out of her reach.
We put DD in her "chair" (that's what we call it - it's like a exersaucer thing) to play until she gets bored. She lets us know when she wants out. We do the same with floor time - let her play/roll around/crawl backwards until she's tired of it. The exersaucer lets her stand, which she loves to do, without putting too much weight on her legs and without DH or I needing to hold her up. She can spin around in it and it has different toys all around her so she's constantly engaged with something colorful or trying to figure out how things work. We also use the highchair in the kitchen. I'll put her in it with some toys on the tray in front of her while I do dishes or make her bottle. She loves when we face her towards the window so she can see the kids playing outside - she tries to talk to them through the window!
Little man sits in an exersaucer or bouncer for about 20 minutes before he gets bored and fusses. He much prefers being on his floor mat for extended periods of time. I do put him in his swing when I'm taking a shower or something where I can't supervise him as closely, though.
DD takes 1 nap in her swing (couple of hours) and the rest of her naps in her RnP (1 hr at a time usually). The rest of the time she is on her floor mat or in my arms.
DS has acid reflux, so we have to keep his head elevated after eating. He probably spends a total of 2 hours in his swing over the course of the day and maybe another hour in the bouncer when I'm showering, cooking, etc. He also likes being propped up on his Boppy (not sure if you would consider that a gadget?). The rest of the time I hold him or let him play on his activity mat. He'd be on the floor a lot more if he didn't have reflux.
DS is not interested in the swing at all. The only "gadget" that we put him in is his baby enstein jumparoo. Some days he is in there up to maybe an hour (not all at once, broken up throughout the day.) some days he isn't in there at all. Just depends what we're doing. We have also just started putting him in his high chair at the table with us while we eat dinner. We plan to start BLW In a month or so, soi like the idea of us having dinner as a family. He plys with Sophie while we eat.

Probably about 2-3 hours a day. DD naps in her swing for at least one nap if not two. She spends time in her Bumbo or highchair when we eat dinner and lunch. She hangs out in her exersaucer or bouncer for about 20 mins in the mornings. With a toddler and a dog it is necessary to use but not abuse the neglect-o-matics throughout the day. :-)
my LO never spent a lot of time in any sort of contraption. She spent MAYBE an hour combined throughout the entire day either in a bouncer, swing, bumbor, or jumper. she's never LOVED those things and actually liked Tummy time so she would actually spend more time on her playmate than anything else. we just bought a walker since she just started crawling...at this point we just have a jumper and the walker. she spends maybe 30 minutes throughout the entire day (10 min for me to make lunch and 20 min for me to start dinner) in it.
Little Riley-our first little girl coming March 1st, 2013 (or sometime around there;)
My daughter loves her baby Einstein jumparoo. She will last 20-30 mins. Her favorite thing though is to roll around on the floor. We have one of the octagon gates and I put her playmat and a few toys in there and she will roll around in there for about 20-30mins as well. Only reason I put the gate up was because she will roll into the other room and on the wood floor if she wasn't. This also gives me a min to go to the bathroom or get a drink or something lol.
Re: How much time does your LO spend in gadgets? (swings, etc)
He's on the floor the majority of the time
