High-Risk Pregnancy

GD frustrations

So am I being completely irrational and sensitive to the fact that I don't think it's very nice for my husband to bring goodies home while I can't eat them. This GD diet is so hard. I crave sugar and want it so bad. He knows this. I don't expect him to change all of his eating habits but he doesn't seem to care. He thinks why she he eat any different and it just hurts. Why not support me and wanna make this easier for me by at least not bringing goodies home. 2 times this week he did that. :(

Re: GD frustrations

  • Oh honey, we can line them up and shoot if you'd like!

My dear, sweet sweet, DH just had his wisdom teeth out last week. He has been living off of milkshakes, ice cream, pudding, full flavored yogurt, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and some of the most delicious chicken n noodles his grandma makes (the good kind that is thick with homemade noodles...ugh YUM).

And do you know what he said to me? "I can't wait to be able to eat real food again."
    :-O WHAAAAAT??

It sucks that he isn't being supportive. I found a few really great recipes that feel like amazing snacks but are still pretty GD friendly if you want me to share.

  • Sure I would love you to share and I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm craving some donuts and cupcakes and some pumpkin roll and muffins! Ugh only 7 more weeks!

Please share!! I'm about to head into round three of GD and am fresh out of ideas that aren't string cheese and peanut butter.

OP, sorry your DH is being a brat about it. I totally agree to hoard everything after the baby is born, and enjoy every bite ;)

  • Yes please share, anyone has any good breakfast ideas share those too would be wonderful!! I am so sick of eggs!!

I tried something today someone on here suggested, the nature valley protein granola bars, they are delicious!! Even have a tiny bit of chocolate!! So far so good to have in the afternoon for me!!
  • I love the Nature Valley Protein bars! Possible TMI warning though - do not eat more than two in a day... I ate a whole box (5) in a day and well, that's just way too much fiber for a person's system. It was misery.

  • Oh yea! Egg alternative ideas? I used to like eggs but after having eggs non stop at breakfast, I can barely choke them down.

  • DH has been amazing my entire pregnancy. But I opened the fridge door two nights ago to find two Halloween Reese's cups. I could have slugged him and drug his body to the curb right then and there! What is wrong with these men?!

  • I hear you!!! I'm feeling sorry for myself that I won't get to pig out on Halloween candy this year :( I found two decent types of ice cream that isn't quite like the real thing but better than my ole reliable apple and peanut butter snack. One is called "So Delicious Sugar Free" which is a coconut milk based ice cream. I found it at our Target but I've also seen the same brand at health food stores. The other one is called clemmy's ice cream. It was invented by a guy who has diabetes and they have AWESOME flavors that are 100% sugar free . Including chic chip, orange Creme! toasted almond! and coffee. They have it at our whole foods or you can order online and they guarantee it will arrive frozen as they send it with dry ice. Here is their website. https://www.clemmysicecream.com/home Hang in there!!! Hugs!!

  • I do think it's reasonable to set boundaries with DH. My husband eats whatever he wants, but he knows that candy bars, cookies, etc need to be eaten in a room I am not in. I am NOT watching him eat a Snickers. No way. I have also created a separate cabinet for food I can have. I look in there, and I only see good, healthy choices. All of Dh's candies and goodies go in a separate place. I let him keep Oreos on the counter since I have my own low-sugar cookies that I will eat occasionally. That system has really helped. Your DH needs to be supportive as it is his child too.

  • I am at 38 weeks, been on the GD diet since 30.  I have found that I can't eat fruit or have juice.  My hubby has been super super supportive.  He is actually happy about it a he has lost 20 some pounds since I started this diet.  lol!  He even feels bad for losing weight while I'm pregnant.  Any who... I have found that when I am really really craving something like a snickers bar, etc.  I can eat a small amount of it.  Ice cream has been a saving grace for me.  I eat it as my night time snack when we have it.  The fat and protein work for me.  I put it in a small coffee mug so i feel like I'm eating a lot of it.  My fasting numbers are lower after a night of ice cream than a night without.  So I figure it's working.  My downfall has been fruit... No fruit for this momma and I am a huge fruit junkie.  I can eat it if it's baked in a bread though.  So I have been doing a lot of baking.  I just minimize how much I eat.

    Good luck!

I discovered this one when I was doing the 17 day diet (way before I got pg lol)

Place 1/2 cup Greek yogurt in a bowl. Add 1package Truvia and 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa. Mix thoroughly.

I've also added vanilla extract and almond extract and it is yummy! (I don't have measurements since I just poured and tasted until I liked it lol)

Browse this list, its from cycle 1 of the 17 day diet (essentially low to no carb recipes). I found a lot of it worked for a diabetic/GD diet, as long as you add the x amount of carbs you need. Its a good base set of recipes that can be bulked up.

I've also heard a lot about sugar free jell-o powder in yogurt for a really yummy treat. Yogurt (greek or otherwise) is really a great protein and easy to dress up.

I also fell in love with ricotta cheese + mashed strawberries (I used frozen and blended them, but also just defrosted and mashed with a fork). I would give this to DD when she started solids and will admit I might have eaten more of this than her. Regularly.

Also, not in the snack category, but I have found Mung Bean pasta to be awesome! Look past the name, and expect more of a noodle texture, but I seriously can eat this in almost unlimited amounts and have great numbers. It helps when you're craving a big giant bowl of spaghetti and meatballs and can only have a teensy tiny amount of spaghetti.

  • For breakfast this time around I've found that I can do multi grain waffles and whole wheat pancakes if I have a protein with it like sausage or cheese. I can't have a lot (2 waffles=30g of carbs), but I buy it pre-frozen and give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I give it to DH or DD. I buy store brand so at least if I can't have it, it was cheap. I've also had great luck with the Special K breakfast sandwiches (15g of carbs/sandwich) It is eggs + meat + cheese, but it doesn't feel like you're eating eggs. I can't handle eggs this time around with all the MS I've been having. Maybe further into 2nd Tri I'll give it a shot.

How do you feel about tofu? I have a recipe for a breakfast tofu scramble that is really nice.
