I have always heard it pronounced Ev-rhett and that is how I would pronounce it.

ETA: I also suspect pronunciation will depend on where people are located geographically.

  • Me too.. "Ev-rhett" is my vote. (But I bet a LOT of people would say Ever-ett. It's a tough one, because it doesn't seem like a super popular name that everyone already knows.

  • I don't think I've ever heard that name before, so when I look at it I see it as Ever-ett

I must live near Kacie.  If you live in Massachusestts everyone knows it as Ev-rhett. A city outside of Boston.

  • I'm Australian and I know ppl with the last name and its always been ever- ett. The other pronunciation seems funny to me!
  • Here in Oklahoma we like to shorten names it wi uld definitely be Ev-rhett.

Trying to imagine someone from boston saying Everet. Hmmm
  • Agreed with PP who said it will actually sound the same. I've known people with this name, and I *know* it's supposed to be 3 syllables (ev-er-et,) but when I'm actually saying it in conversation it just comes out as two (ev-rit). I wonder if the people saying they will pronounce it with 3 syllables will actually say it that articulately, or they just think they will say it like that.

  • I'm a SS. I think it's more like the first, but there's a very slight hint of the "er" after "Ev". It's not a full Ever-ett, but it's a bit more than just Ev-rett. This is one of my favorite names!

  • I think it depends where you're from.  I agree with the pp that it's almost like "Ev-rett".
  • This is a city near Seattle too. It's SO ehv-rett.
  • I'm in Ohio and my friend just named her baby Ever-ett!
  • I think when you try to say it normally without thinking about it both ways sound exactly the same. I like that name.

  • The actor Rupert Everett pronounces it Ever-ett bit he's English.
  • Like others, this is a town by me and I have always pronounced it Ev-rhett. I have also known one person with that name and that is also how it was pronounced. Of course, sometimes people will say it how they want no matter how you think it should be.

  • Very interesting to see how different people say it. I'd say Ever-ett. But really, they both are so similar I don't think you'll notice the difference. Depending on how fast someone says it and their accent, it's just about the same. IMO :)
