anyone train dog too get use to baby?

I have an incredibly friendly pitbull (Jayden). Im due in May and was wondering if anybody had trained or "prepared" their dog to be around babies... Jayden has been around plenty of children usually ages 5 and up and he is NEVER mean he is just really excited and jumpy and wants to lick and kiss. I have not seen him around any infants or toddles and am a little nervous that hes not gunna know what the heck it is.
I dont know what to do if their is special training i can sign him up for lol? or what! has anyone else been in the predicament? Getting rid of him is absolutely not an option he is like my son.

  • I have the sweetest pitbull (Jax) myself but was def nervous to see how he would be with my son.
My son was born 8-21 so he's just about a month and our pup has been awesome. No special classes or anything. One thing we did do was the nurse gave us his hospital hat and blanket and DH brought it home for Jax to smell and get used to it.
The first couple days he would get a little excited/nervous when he cried and stuff but now he barely pays attention to the baby and sometimes when the baby is in his crib I'll find Jax sitting lying on the floor in front of the crib. Its actually really sweet to see how much he's loves the baby which is such a relief cuz our pup is so much more than a dog to us.
Good lucl and hope he's good with your LO! They are really great dogs :-)

  • I have a puggle and am now at 31 weeks.  Just this week I pulled an audio off youtube for a baby crying/wailing and played it for a little bit to see how my dog would react.  I figured, I'd start playing it somewhat regularly so she'd get used to it.  When the recording started, she was laying on the couch and her head popped up; she looked around for about a minute and then put her head back down and went to sleep!

My BIL did the bringing home the clothes and blanket from the hospital each day and recommended that we do that as well.  They never had any issues with their furbabies. . . they also made EVERYONE who came to see the baby (once at home) pay attention/say hello to the dogs before they came near the baby.
