Tested positive for the CF gene

Hi ladies,

I received blood results today that show I am a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis. Now we're waiting on my husband to get tested and it is SO hard not to worry.

My best friend's adorable son has CF so I feel like because I am so close to it, it doesn't seem so abstract but instead, a real possibility.

I understand the facts and stats that come along with being a carrier - both parents have to have it to pass it on and then there's a 25 percent chance your child will have CF, which sounds like good odds. But I hate the waiting. I hate not knowing.

Big hug for all of your stress, hopefully your husband isn't a carrier and you can put all of this behind you.

Big hug to you for the stress. One of my closest friend's/business partner sister had CF, and we also hold a golf tournament to raise money each year. (yea @evenstar1611). Luckily, neither of the other two kids had it or are even carriers. Even if you and your husband are carriers, the odds are still really in your favor. Fingers crossed your husband is not and then there's no need to worry at all. But even if your child does have CF, they have made so much progress on managing this disease in the past twenty years. A child can lead a long healthy life with CF. Good luck with your testing!

I am also a carrier and worried until we got my husbands results back last time (he's not a carrier). If I remember correctly, even if your husband is a carrier, you guys would have to be carriers of the same "strain" of CF.
