Rough day...

I was super busy yesterday (I had a custody trial) but I thought my cm seemed darker colored than usual. When I got home, there was some brown spotting in my underwear. Cue the freakout. I called the dr this morning, since I've continued to have light brown spotting on and off today, and the nurse sent me for hcg and progesterone levels. After I'd driven the hour back to work, the nurse calls again saying the dr wants me to have an ultrasound as well. I drive back to the doctor's, and the ultrasound can see the gestational sac and the yolk sac, but no heartbeat. :( Maybe it is still too early? The tech also saw a small bleed near the implantation sight which she thought was causing the bleeding. Then she checked my ovaries and found a "giant" cyst (her words, not mine) on one of them. It was very painful when she was trying to measure the cyst. Anybody think this could still have a happy outcome? The dr is supposed to call me today or tomorrow to talk about it and schedule another appointment...

Re: Rough day...

  • It could definitely be to early to see the heartbeat.  I don't know much about cysts but I don't think you should panic yet.  I'm sorry you have to go through this though.

Sorry you are having a rough day! It is very likely too early for you to have heard the heartbeat. The heart starts beating at the end of 5 weeks, beginning of 6 weeks. It is a very good sign that they saw the yolk sac. I would not worry at this point, if I were you (easier said than done!). It is very early, the spotting is only brown and likely related to implantation. FX for you, but don't fret! Big ((hugs))!

ETA The tech also found a large cyst in my left ovary, which she said was normal and likely the ovary I ovulated from.

  • It could still be too early. We didn't see a baby at 6.5 weeks with ds...just a gestational sac and yolk sac. Went back a week later and there was the baby. Fx crossed for you!

  • Yes, that happened to me my last pregnancy...Days mean the world this early in a pregnancy. I didn't get any babies out of it (but for other reasons, don't worry)

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. I only know what I've seen here.
Believe it's too early for a heartbeat. And I've seen other posts on cysts and ladies say they go away on their own a lot. Fingers crossed for you!

  • It is to early to see a heartbeat. The u/s tech said the earliest you can see it is 5wks 6 days. I have a big cyst too. My doc said it was where I ovulated from. I looked it up and it looks like it is a corpus luteum cyst. My ob didn't seem concerned, but the u/s tech was asking me all these questions when she was measuring it like "Have I been bleeding, have I been in pain?" Maybe make a list of questions so you will have it on hand when you see the doc.

  • Thanks for the thoughts, ladies. I hope it is just too early for the heartbeat.
