I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with baby #2. My first pregnancy last year ended early at 32 weeks due to prePROM. Luckily my DD (3lbs 9 oz) was born healthy and did not have any issues. We had an uneventful 3 week stay at the NICU. Last week I asked my OB if I should get the P17 shots weekly to avoid another early baby. My OB didn't think it was absolutely necessary since baby #1 was born fine and late pre-term. We have no idea why she came so early, but all is well now. I don't really want to bother with the weekly shot if not necessary. My OB referred me to a specialist and said it's up to me. Any thought Ladies? Thanks for your help!
Re: Should I get the Progesterone shot or not for 2nd pregnancy???
It gave me quite a bit of peace of mind to get the shot. It was expensive, though, because my insurance didn't pay for it. Some people have uncomfortable side effects from it, although I didn't.
I think if it was me, I'd ask myself how I'd feel if I refused the shot and had an earlier preemie? What does your doctor think are the risks of you having another one?
