Dear NICU Nurses

I wanted to share this article with the preemie board... I loved it. These nurses were my saving grace while O was in the hospital and I'm eternally grateful. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/heather-hucks/nicu-nurse_b_3930629.html?utm_hp_ref=parents-moms

  • I love this article. One of my NICU nurses actually posted it on her FB, and then I saw it pop up in a few other places...I was in tears by the time I got through it the first time. Completely in tears.

  • I wanted to solicit opinions from this group on how to express thanks to our nurses...O was transferred from a level 3 to a level 2 nursery about 1/2 way through his hospitalization because they needed the room for babies that needed a higher level of care. This was of course a good move because it meant LO was doing well. We were asked, and the ambulancce was there within 20 minutes and he was moved in an isolette within the ambulance. It all happened so quick I didn't get to extend my gratitude like I would have liked. I'd like to do something now that things have calmed down, but I'm sure my little one is a distant memory to the staff at Duke NICU. Any suggestions?

  • That article was so well written and definitely had me in tears!! We had many NICU nurses through our 83 day stay, and with the exception of 2, they were all amazing.

  • That was so beautiful I have tears in my eyes reading it.  Henry had a nurse who was his primary nurse for most of his 33 day stay - she was on vacation when he was discharged, and I always felt bad that I never said good-bye or expressed our gratitude with how well she took care of Henry (and us!).

We go to the hospital for dr visits every once in awhile, and I always hope that we see her in line in the cafeteria or somewhere so I can show her how well Henry is doing, and to tell her we will always be thankful for how she took care of our baby in his first 33 days of life :)
Welcomed our baby boy Henry on March 15, 2013 (7 weeks early!)

  • I saw this on FB. I definitely shared it on my wall. It brought tears to my eyes. Loved our SCN nurses. They were so much like family to us. I cried when we took our babies home because we were going to miss them.
