High-Risk Pregnancy

What testing did they do after pre-e diagnosis?

Did your MFM or OB test you for any underlying disorders after you had pre-e?

I had what was considered "severe" pre-e and my LO developed IUGR with number 1.  No one every did any testing on me for underlying conditions. Now I am pregnant with number 2.  The more I read, the more I seem to uncover about people being tested for possible underlying disorders like clotting disorders or autoimmune disorders.

  • I had severe pre-e and my LO also had IUGR. She had IUGR before I developed the severe pre-e. I was told by my high-risk and ob that my placenta failed since it stopped providing nutrients but I retained the blood flow. So when my placenta failed it caused my severe pre-e. I was told for LO #2 I would be started on a blood pressure med from the beginning. I was also warned that someone women just make crappy placentas so if that is the cause for myself then the med really won't work.

This is the exact same scenario that appears to have happened with me, but I was told that the pre-e caused the IUGR.  But it always seemed to me that the IUGR started before the pre-e because LO had lost quite a bit of ground by the time I was 28 weeks and I didn't start spilling protein until a few weeks later.  But I had terrible doctors so what you were told makes ALOT more sense.

  • We got the IUGR news at 20 weeks and no mention of pre-e till 28/29 weeks.
Interesting that the seem to go hand in hand.

No IUGR, that we know of, at 28 weeks and 24 hour urine collection came back perfect.  Hoping pre-e doesn't strike twice.
Nobody ever mentioned BP meds for this pregnancy, I would get a second opinion on that.
